Lightbulb Magnaflow SIDO Install How to

Hi everyone. I just installed a magnaflow 16614 SIDO pSS exhaust system. This is a very nice kit. Fit and finish was top notch. Before I get started I need to thank the people on this board that gave me a few tips before I started, thier advise was priceless. I would like to thank Dzervit for the coupon code "fordtruck8" at hottexhaust without which this would not have happend until next year. And most of all my wife who has always said "honey if that is what you want, go for it" when ever I have said I want to do mods to my cars and trucks. Not to mention that she pitched in and got her hands dirty too!

Lets get it on:

Tools (must have)
ramps or jack stands
creaper
15mm wrench
10mm socket with 3/8 drive ratchet
2 - 8" 3/8 extensions
48" rope
WD-40

Tools (optional)
Air compressor
3/8" air ratchet
1/2" impact wrench
15mm impact socket - deep well
8" X 1/2" extension.

My time start to finish was 2 hrs. 30 minutes of this was trying to remove a pipe that had a locking pin I could not see. there is a much easier way and I will explain. I did have the benefit of air tools. The impact saved a lot of time. it took less than 5 minutes to tighten and align everything. By hand it would take considerably longer.

This will take several threads so bear with me.

I then took a rope and tied one end around the leaf springs and one around the frame making a loop around the muffler, I was able to use this to gently lower the stock fishing reef.............err muffler down.

I unbolted all the stock hangers and loosened the stock clamp just ahead of the muffler..........don't do this.....loosen the clamp furthest from the muffler, it will just slide out. The other one has a locking pin on top so you cant see it. All bolts are 10mm. You will need 1 or 2 extensions for them.

With all the hangers unbolted from the frame and the clamp loose (yes unbolt the hangers, don't try to pull them out) it take little effort to slide the whole tailpipe and muffler back and free. The rope will hold it, and it is quite heavy. let it down and set aside.

hangers

Clamp bolts are 15mm. Both stock and magnaflow.

Crank 'er up and see what it sounds like with no muffler. Thrill the neighbors

Get a Beer.
stand back and stare at the restrictive stock crap with neighbors and make some jokes. Drink another beer. OK, back to work.

Unbox the magnaflow. Lay it out in order. I layed mine out on the living room floor and had the wife bring each piece out as I needed it. didnt want to lay it on the concrete or grass. My wife didnt mind. (your wifely experience may vary)

The weather turnd to crap about now so I stoped taking pictures and installed it quickly. These pics are from the next day. Remove the section of pipe from the muffler and put it back on the y pipe. Remove all the hangers from the stock setup by using WD-40 to lube the rubber pieces well, they will slide right off. do this before you get back under the truck.
Don't tighten anything down, just enough to hold it in place. start at the front and work back. add each piece untill you have the tips on. I used self tapping bolts for the 2 back hangers that do not have stock mounting holes, tuck these up as far as you can.

Tie the brake lines back with Plastic ties

Have somone use a streight edge and align everything. start at the front and tighten all the clamps, adjusting as needed. I used an impact wrench and this was quick and easy. I am not totaly happy with the alignment, however the directions say you should retighten in 1 week. when I do this I will align better then weld the tips in place.

Put the spare tire back up, take her off the ramps, pick up the tools and your done!

OK, so whats it like you say.

A little background first. I was a teenager in the origional muscle car era. My neighbors had 67 427 corrvettes, 68 GTOs, 70 440 magnum Road Runners, and we had a 69 SS 396 Chevelle. My first cars were all muscle cars. I am a motorhead. Music to me is a big block with open headers, a lopey cam, a big a$$ 4 barrel and a 4 speed running through the gears.

I love these magnaflows! They are very low toned and throaty. They sound good though the entire rev range. The only problem I see is if you live in a very mountainous area. accellerating up a hill at low speed does produce a drone. once you hit 45 its gone. Crusing on the interstate you can hardly hear them. My wife is soft spoken and we had no difficulty talking even when there was some drone at lower speeds. I made some clips and dont know how to post them here, so I will make a web page and post a link so all can hear. the video sucks so give me a break.

I didnt feel any power gain or lose. dyno numbers say different but you cant feel it. Sound is worth the price anyway. Money well spent in MHO.

I hope everyone enjoys this thread. I will do another when my AF1 and Xcal2 get here.....................Come on Mike its been 4 weeks!

Absolutely awesome job. Thank you very much for doing this for me and everyone else. I've decided I'm going with magnaflow SIDO BUT instead of the round tips I'm going to do the rectangle, old vette style. I figure that will be a good and different look which will go with the lines of the truck. Since the truck is pretty boxy with a lot of straight lines.

I honestly have no idea. Try posting in general and someone should be able to help you out.

Have you had any experience with the camaro style tips? I wonder if they're louder.

Great work, especially the part about the locking tab thing.

My magnaflow clamps were 14mm, however...

Ok, I have been tring to get some vids on here so you can see what this exhaust sounds like with normal accelleration.

http://videos.streetfire.net/player....6-63F8B0FBA3F1
this normal accelleration uphill. Drones a little.

http://videos.streetfire.net/player....B-8FCDA01AAF07
normal accelleration on level ground.

this as WOT through 1st gear.

Idle and rev.

I hope this helps for those that are undecided.

I love the sound
