It looks like your is further back than mine. What is the wheel base on your truck? It also looks like you used spacers to hold your out from the frame, I just held it up to the frame to where the "L" bracket was welded on, and put the bolt there. Did you use a factory hole? And most important ..........How do you like it?

My truck is a Supercrew. We used three washers to hold it out from the frame because the "L" part of the bracket would keep the part of the bracket with the hole it in from being flush to the frame. I had to do this because I used a factory hole that was square in shape. The factory holes that were circles were too high up to reach with the bracket.

I really think it's too loud on the highway. This is my daily driver and I put on about 60-120 miles a day depending on how many clients I have to drive to. I think I'm going to check out Midas this week and see how much they would charge to weld on a 22 inch magnaflow muffler instead of the 18 inch muffler.

Do you think the extra 4 inches will make it quieter?

I must confess, last week I installed a Magnaflow resonator #14416 just ahead of the the 18" magnaflow. The drone at low speeds in heavy traffic was too much. I spend an hour a day in stop and go traffic and it was just too much. with the resonator it cut the drone in half. Still a very deep tone, mean and agressive. I like it much better this way. by the way it will get louder after a short while. I took out the factory pipe ahead of the muffler and put the resonator and a 9 3/8" piece of pipe (I cut the factory pipe) back in. I think it was the least expensive way to fix the problem. It did not come with clamps so i got 2 Stainless steel band clamps at O'rieleys auto parts. The resonator is still a straight through design and I sont think it will hurt performance. I dynoed my truck for the datalogging for Mike Troyer to finish my tunes and I made 247 hp and 326tq at the wheels and I was very lean all through the rpm range. 14 - 17 A/F I think it will make at least a few more ponies when the tunes are finished. I am going to do a thread in the chips and tuning section when I get time.

Any pics of the resonator or how much did it cost, where did you buy it? So can you still hear it going down the highway at 65-75 mph? (I'm talking sound, not drone or such, just flat out sound of any kind)

Also, what tune were you running on your dyno? Exhaust can't make you run lean can it? Could it have been the AF1?

I got it at Hott exhaust.com for $58.00. it cut the sound about in half. You can still hear it going down the highway, but the wind noise is louder. I will try to make a clip tomorrow and post it.

The lean condition is just because my tunes are not dialed in. this is my first datalog. It was a very fun time on the dyno though. It was the 93 performance tune.

I think I'll end up putting on a 24 inch muffler instead. I'll have to get an exhaust shop to do it, since I'm assuming they'll have to cut that pipe down to fit and then weld it in place. (All things I can't do) What was a cost effective modification just became a lot more expensive.

How much HP and Torque do our trucks make stock at the rw? Just trying to figure out what your initial gains were?

[QUOTE=F150 Duke] I think I'll end up putting on a 24 inch muffler instead.

I spoke with the guys at Magnaflow today and they told me that for a quieter sound to go with the 22" because it's 5x11 which makes it quieter than the 24" because it is 5x8.

You can go to the Magnaflow website and compare the Expedition Sound clip (5x11x22) with the Dodge Durango (5x8x24) sound clip to see the difference.
Sure, its 2 different vehicles, but I still think its pretty good for comparison.
You can really hear the difference when you compare both clips.

Just ordered a 5x11x22 less than 5 mins ago. Can't wait to hear it!!!!

Unfortunately I did not get the stock figures. Acording to Mike Troyer and others it should be around 210 HP, I dont remember the TQ #s.

Well then what would be quieter...

5X11X22 or using the 5X8X18 that I have with a resonator in front of it. I can't figure out which one to use. The resonator would be a lot cheaper at $53 and the other muffler would be $98

Well, hmmmmmmmm, I don't know. I would imagine that the muffler/resonator combo is probably VERY quiet, close to stock.
So, for that matter you could probably just go back to stock. But the reason we buy a muffler in the first place is for a little sound though, right?

And then there's the question of restriction from having the two devices in-line with each other.

Well, I'll just say that if you're thinking about a new muffler altogether consider the 5x11x22 instead of the 5x8x24 for quietness per Magnaflow tech helpline.

Yeah now I'm stuck between the

5X11X22 and a resonator with the 18".

.
No, its not. Its a resonator not a muffler

No, its not restrictive its a staight through design.

Here is a vid of the Resonator
