Well its in, that was pretty easy. I cheated and just ran it down the door and then into the kickpanel and up into the glovebox.

Took about an hour, gotta figure out the new headunit now.

Dropouts huh? I'll have to see, so far so good but I have only had it on for 30 min.

I ended up moving the Antenna to the roof this morning because I was getting blimps and such every once in awhile. Not a big deal but none the less annoying.

Been out all day and so far so good.

If you want to save yourself some time during install, just pick-up an Alpine CDA-9820XM Head Unit. Has a single disc CD player, removable face and best of all a BUILT-IN XM Tuner. No more installation of an add-on tuner....just the installation of an additional XM Antenna.

Just wanted to revive this thread for two reasons:

1) To say thanks for the pics and instructions. I just moved my XM from my old 2000 Lightning to my new 2004 Lightning and didn't want to go with the same antenna location. Bought the XM Micro antenna and mounted it in the same place, works awesome. Thanks again.

2) Maybe someone else will see this thread and get some use out of it like I did.

Fantastic thread

Just installed my pioneer deh-p860mp and xm tuner yesterday and I am glad I found this before I ran my antenna.

I think I am gonna give the wiper cowl a try. I do hope it doesn’t effect my signal any.

Thanks again for the info.

I only lose it when driving under or next to overpasses.

Running my antenna under the cowl was way easy. The antenna that came with my dxm1000 was so small that I mounted it closer to the middle of the windshield instead of the far right. If you look real hard you can see it through the open vents in the cowl. There was no need to drill any holes through the firewall either, just pop the rubber grommet out, run the wire, and pop the grommet back in. as far as I can tell my signal is solid. I have had no drop outs yet. From what I have read in this thread, living in Louisiana isn’t hurting my signal any.

Thanks for a great topic. I love my truck even more now.

Didn't know SkyJacker was a LA company...good to know that our boys can keep up. I'll keep that in mind when I consider getting a lift kit as I'd rather support in state companies first to help boost Blanco's economy

Alpine CDA-9820xm install

Wanted to send a big thanks to B-man for the tip on the stealth XM antenna install. I am in Central California and having the antenna under the cowl has proved to be no problem on the West Coast. I installed the Alpine CDA-9820xm unit for the following reasons: The XM tuner was built in, the display was green (same as the instrument panel at night), the Alpine CDA-9820xm can be used with an optional remote control, and Alpine rocks!!!!

I used the Metra dash kit 99-5802 for the head unit and followed B-man's instructions to the letter for the antenna install. I used the Terk micro antenna and it works great.

Can someone point me to a good install instructions. I got sirius satellite sportster and trying to install in my F150 ..

Ahhhh, just kidding. I stumbled upon this site (google search) looking for ANY information at all on antenna placement and I'm happy to report that I followed the B-man instructions and it works perfectly under the cowl of the windshield wipers. I get a tiny bit of static when I head in south direction (I live in Los Angeles) but I'll work that out. I SO didn't want to mount that thing on my roof.

THANKS for the AWESOME instructions B-MAN!!!

I'm glad I found this place. I guess next I'll be looking for info on a mod chip to open up more power on my triton.
