Question Rain X

I was interested in using Rain X, and would like to know what your opinion was. Good or bad.

Indeed RainX does work. The only down side that I see is the need to constantly re-apply it--usually every week.

Good luck to all,

All RainX did was cause my wipers to streak the glass...Is there some trick to applying RainX?

I saw RainX used on Shadetree Mechanic yesterday and they used RainX cleaner before applying RainX. Does anyone know if the cleaner helps?

Cool

I've been a believer in Rain-X since I moved to FL in '86, where it rains every day during the summer. Greatest thing I ever used.
Now I live in CA, where it rains only about 3 days per year! I still use Rain-X. It was the first after-market item I purchased for my truck
I never had a streaking problem so I can't say if the Rain-X Cleaner will help. I recently purchased a gallon of Rain-X Cleaner and now I just wait for the rain...
Winter is supposed to be the rainy season here. I'll let you know my results after it rains
Don't hold your breath

Marv1 -
Perhaps your streaking problem is "installation" related.
BEFORE I put Rain-X on any window, I make sure the window is really clean. Then I apply the first coat of Rain-X per the instructions. After it is dry, I apply a second coat of Rain-X - maybe that helps...
I found that I could go for 3-4 weeks between applications when in FL with daily showers
Every 3-4 weeks, a single application restored the water shedding properties for another month.
Good luck.

I use 0000 steel wool to apply Rain-X to the windshield and the wipers. This works great to get the bugs and oil off. Then I rinse the winshield with the hose and wash the truck. Then I dry/buff the winsheild with a towel. This works great and limits the streaking that I always got if I didn't wash the winsheild after application.

JCAM,

Rain-X is extremely good!! We used it all of the time on our UH-60 Blackhawks when I flew in the Army. Rain-X works great up to 160 MPH + !!

I have been using it ever since on all of my vehicles. Wipers are usually an option in a rain storm with Rain-X.

Marv1,

it could be your wipers. I have installed Rain-X on my truck and on my wife's car. I had no problem on my truck but her car started to get some streaking like you mentioned. The application procedure was the same on both vehicles. I changed her wipers from the cheap brand bought at Wall-Mart to another brand (cannot remember the name - it was purchased at Autozone) and the streaking stopped. However, I only got to test this a couple of times since we have not had much rain since this mod was made.
Also, make sure you don't have any fine particles of sand embedded in you wiper blades. the glass may be more sensitive to this once Rain-X has been applied (just a theory).

Bent6 I hope that when you wash your Truck after applying Rainx, that the Rainx does rinse off on to your paint.
I do mine at night, so that 1) I can see if it's really clean (if done during the day it will look clean untill you drive at night)and 2) because it is cooler (if applyed in warm weather, it WILL streak). I wash my windshield really good including my wipers and then apply several coats of Rainx. I never get streaking this way.
Rainx also makes wax which I have tried, "nothing sticks but the shine" Well it's not better than the others, but it is good stuff. To see what it looks like after a rain, look at pic below I waxed it on thanksgiving day and then met Tina the next day: Never mind, just do what Tina said!
I don't want to stretch ths thread out for a pic that won't show!

Gonna get my Bed rails back on, Finally!
Couldn't find the right Polished steel design, so once I modify the powercoated ones I just bought, I will paint them.
Q: who wants my chrome ones? Price:cost of shipping or gas and maybe lunch if you live in S/E MI.

Rain X is an absolute must. You do need to have that windshield spotless first. And the part about not being in the sun is VERY true. I've been there and done that, not a pretty sight and a lot of work to get rid of the streaks. When this stuff is applied correctly it works great. Also, I've found that different areas of the US required different application times: like some of the other's here have stated, it all depends on how much rain you get. When I lived up in WA state it rained almost every day. Went through a lot of the stuff there.

Andthensometoo: I couldn't get the pictures to show up here either so I just put the address of where they are: My computer loads slooowly so be patient with your computer if the picture doesn't come right away. www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/daytona/843/ownersgal3.html

Rain X is a good product, but I prefer the STP product. It is more expensive but lasts much longer.
