Pop ups and pop ins... or something.

Webmaster, to tell ya the truth, I liked it better when I clicked on a link and a new window opened up. Like in a thread and there was a link, it would leave the current window open, but open the new webpage.

Oh well, just one guys opinion.

Steve the new external links setting no longer opens them in a new window -

I admit I prefer the new window myself

The goal is to have an internal link (things like another thread on the site, photo gallery, etc.) and have an external link open within the framed page with the banner ad. Since I am not a PHP coder, I have to experiment with how to make this happen...any PHP gurus out there?

Also, you still have the option of manually opening up a new window, just right-click on the link and select "open in new window" and then click on the "remove frame" from the bottom of the new page. Two extra clicks...only a small lost revenue opportunity for the site.

Rather than clicking on the "return to f150online" link you click on your broswer's back button, won't that return you to where you were in the thread? If so, won't that solve issue #1?

I'm still trying to figure out what #2 means...

MINOR UPDATE...rather than "linking" back to the previous page, I changed it to use Javascript to simply return you back to where you were. Is that better? (for issue #1)

Issue #2 probably came as a result of Issue #1, so now you can't reproduce it.

My goal is to strike a happy medium between revenue for the site and not (overly) alienate its users.

See, I'm nothing if not flexible.

Ironically enough, I've had a Gumby in every vehicle I've owned since 1992...and a Pokey in my office window since about the same time!

Well, I don't mind the banners and what not, I'm just not used to pressing back anymore. I have the habit of x'ing the window out(old habit) and I have to start all over again.

Great site and much love! (just give me pop ups with internal banners and all will be fine)

Old habits die hard!

I agree that it will take some getting used to, but we'll figure it out in no time. You get used to doing something a certain way for so long, then it changes. Sometimes change can be perceived as bad...in this case, only time will tell.

Just give us a while to figure it out.
