COST is my reason for buying ford over toyota. Even if I have to rebuild my engine and transmission, I am ahead of the price of the toyota. plus, parts for toyota will always be superexpensive. toyotas truck is smaller, less comfortable also, in my opinion. First year productionin a MAIN concern. I do believe they have a good truck in the tundra, but in my opinion the ford fits me better. And I am a true toyota fan, after owning 4 of them. my 2 cents.

I'd rather encourage north American companies than Toyota/Honda/Kia/Daewoo etc..

Hmmm, so far I haven't seen any great reasons not to buy a Tundra. It's close enough to full-size for me. I probably won't buy until the 2001 models come out, so the first-year model issue doesn't apply. I also don't believe in the "don't buy foreign" argument. It's a global economy, you know. I would just be helping out those folks at that Toyota plant in Indiana if I buy a Tundra, anyway.
Keep trying - talk me out of it, if you can!

I am in the same boat as the originator of this thread.
I suspect I will be able to get invoice for the Ford but am anticipating much closer to retail for the Toy.
I think the Toy, even if a first year, will probably hold up better, although I understand the Ford to be light years ahead of the Dodge and Chevy.
Custom and replacement parts will be much less for the Ford. Imagine lifting that Tundra double wishbone front susp.?
The front of the Tundra looks odd with lights going one way and the grill the other and the fender flairs look like K-mart add-ons.
The Ford has LOTS more configurations and for this reason will be thousands less for me.
I personally prefer buying USA products when given the chance.
The Ford "feels" more substantial.
I want a V8 and 5 speed. Toy does not offer this while the Ford box is a weak link for towing.
It says a lot that I could not find any Tundra web/fan sites!
Tundra rear seat is severe negative.

When I get closer to making my decision I will drive both back to back but am leaning towards the Ford now.

I feel like I'm being tricked into doing someone's homework for them.
The Tundra is 11" shorter than the comparable F150 and 10" shorter in wheelbase. If they both have either the 6.5' or 8' bed where is Toyota's missing 11"? Got to be in the cab.
Since you want a fullsize I am also assuming a V8? The Toyota V8 requires 'Premimun' gas.
Guess that's where they got their extra horses from.
How well is the truck thought out? Let's see how well they named it.
(remember they backed off from the 'T150' title)
The body styles are Regular Cab and Access Cab.
The trim lines are Base, SR5 and Limited.
So, their top of the line truck is called the
Limited Access Cab.
