Pictures of Exhaust System

These are some pictures that I took a couple weeks ago and forgot to put up. I will try to get some of the actual truck as a whole later on today.

I got ya Donate. No offense but damn your exhaust system is rusty. The pipes leading from the manifolds to the y-pipe.

Don't worry no offense taken. There is little if any rust on the pipes. The mountains in my area have a red clay that gets stuck on everything. It has baked onto my pipes, and thats why they look dirty and rusty. This is actually clean compared to what it looks like in the fall and spring. That's when the mud holes are the deepest and sloppiest.

94F15031,

How do you like the sound with your exhaust cut off right after the muffler? I have a very similar exhaust setup, only I have turndowns right after the muffler. The shop installed kind of thin turndowns, so I have been thinking about just getting them cutoff, but I also like how the exhaust bounces off the ground and creates a nice musclecar exhaust note. So maybe I'll just get slightly thicker turndowns. Still, it might be hard to gauge the exhaust note off your truck, since you have a 351 and I have a 302, and it looks as though your removed your first cat. I still have the first stock cat. since the guys at the shop swear up and down it isn't that restrictive, but I did replace my second cat. with a high flow cat. and I have 3" piping all the way through, to a 40 Series Flowmaster muffler, with dual outlets. Like I said, very similar to your setup. I bet yours sounds real mean!!!

TF,

The only way I can describe my exhaust is deep and loud. I recieve compliments on it at stop lights all the time. Everybody that hears it in person is really impressed with how good it sounds.
As far as the catalytic converter goes, I took the original pre heater and catalytic converter off and replaced those with a single high flow catalytic converter. The only part of the exhaust that is origninal are the exhaust manifolds, and the piping between the y-pipe and the high flow cat.

Right on, I bet that does sound tough!!! I would give anything to run just one cat. I almost did it, too. There were two places in town was getting estimates at, when I got my new exhaust, one said that they could remove the preheater and the second cat. and just run a y-pipe and a single high flow cat., exactly as you have done. However, the other shop said it was not smog legal to do that. And since that is where I go to get my truck smogged, who am I to argue with them? The only thing that puzzles me is that I know breaking smog laws out here in California is a serious deal. If a shop was to perform something on a vehicle that was not smog legal, they could get into serious trouble. So why would a shop that has been in business for 30+ years offer to do something tha wasn't smog legal? That was my justification for going with the single cat. setup, but I didn't want to take that risk.

TF,

My shop said that with the single high flow cat I didn't need a pre heater. So I'm pretty sure my setup is still smog legal.
