Recently I was driving infront of my truck in my wife's car and I was kinda intimidated. I recently considered trading up for a SD, but I changed my mind. My truck (all pre-97's) was looking pretty cool all over again!

It may have been the knarly Smitty bumper and knobby TXV's. that did it for me.

I think you hit it exactly; that front grille/headlight arrangement is very friendly (almost affectionate) to the owners, but very intimidating to everyone else. Seeing that grille in your rearview causes a reflex action to move over!

Take care,
-Chris

Thanks for the info. Curt! I am admittingly not all that mechanically inclined, nor do I have time to become that way right now. I'll wrestle around with the prospect of just keeping my truck "stock", getting a "nose job", or just getting a '96 in a few years.

Also, I noticed in your sig. that you have an '89 F-150 with a C-6 tranny. I didn't think those were compatible with the fuel injected engines. How did you manage to hook yours up and still pass smog? I was thinking about getting an '87 F-350 (last year for the carbed. engines in the Super Duties) so I could get a C-6 tranny, a 460 engine, and still have the same body style as my '90. I would probably sky the truck and put some 36" Swampers on there-- talk about a real gas hog, though! So many Ford trucks, such little time and money.....

the truck came stock with a c6 tranny, i love the tranny but would like an e4od just to save on mpg. the c6 tranny is a better tranny in my opinion. i checked all the numbers and did a lot of checking when i bought the 89. i love it cause it just looks mean! people move out of my way and that i like. you can put a c6 in any pre 97 model ford. the difference is you will lose your o/d. you have to reprogram the chip as well. i would check with pkrwud on it, he's real knowledgable. my dad checks the posts all the time and said he thought he was pretty smart about trucks. i agreed. my dad's a shop owner as well. any how. c ya's have a good weekend.

by the way the c6 will bolt up to a 302, 351 and i think a 300. i have to check we used to have an old 80 f150 and my dad built a tranny for it and i put it in. i think it was a c6 but not sure i will check and post on it.

for all of you 4 and 5 speed guys/ girls check the clutch master cylinder every once an awhile. it is next to the brake master. it gets stressed and cracks, the puts pressure on the firewall plate causing that to come off the firewall. when i found this out on an older truck i had it was to late. i just changed everything. clutch master, slave cylinder, linkage. it was only like $350. that was a while ago so i haven't checked clutch prices but it can't change that much. well ford put out a bracket to hold the master in place but again that is plastic so i went with just drilling out two wholes and putting a u bolt through the firewall. it never moved again. just a thought. curt

Thanks Curt, I'll have to check into that! (About the C6 tranny).

Any ways, I don't mean to start any arguments or flames, but be honest, how can anyone like the looks of a 97 or newer F-150 "work series" stipped to the bone 2 wheel drive model, with the dark gray grille, dull argent wheels and overall car-like appearance? Add an ugle camper shell and I am really afraid to call it a Ford truck. It's like I've always told people, when it comes to Ford trucks, they have the ugliest trucks I have ever seen, and also the baddest and the meanest trucks I have ever seen! I saw a real cool circa 1976 F-250 last night. It was a 4x4, lifted, just a work of art! It made me want an older Ford truck all over again!

The sounds of the newer and older f150 says it all! Both trucks all stock you can't even here the purr of the tiny 4.6,atleast not like the roar of the 4.9.Or even shutting the doornew ones sound like a car, older ones sound like a truck, the sound of raw metal jiggling around as you shut the door, the door locks and windows chattering as you shut the door on the 96 beast, when you don't hear crap on a new one!!!!!

At first, I couldn't stand the way the new truck's body style is, but then after I got used to it, I decided that I loved it, and I bought one. Now when I look out the window at it, it looks good to me. I think it kept it's 'truck' look, just a modern version, kind of 'futuristic'. It has really grown on me, and I like the 97 body style the best. I love the way the other styles were too, all of the F-150s are good, I really laiked the 1978 look, but I like this new one the best.

My best friend in the world bought a 2000 F-150, and I think it's a nice truck. I still think it's too feminine, but that's just me. It's "cute". I don't like the dashboard top, which is big enough to land a small plane on, but the windshield angle does make it more aerodynamic. He is also very proud of his indoor/outdoor thermometer (smells like perfume to me!). His is a supercab, and we both agree that the regular cabs just don't look right. I think the new design does work better with a longer cab, but I just haven't quite gotten used to it enough to call it a "truck". It's all a matter of perspective. When my ex's father came out to look at my new '95 F-150, he looked it over and remarked "That's not a truck. You can't call anything a truck that you can't wash out the insides of with a garden hose". He drives a '73 Dodge.

Take care,
-Chris

Our company pickup is a 2001 F150 Supercab 4x4. I've driven it often and the best features about it...other than being new, are the nice ride & the digital compass! I didn't really notice the ride untill I got back from a 3000 mile trip with it & then got in my 96. I still like my 96 better though.
