Cool

Foreigner4L: Odds are, you do have mass air on your truck. If you look under the hood, on your right hand side you will have your air box where the air filter sits in. Coming off of the left hand side of that box there should be a silver piece of aluminum (generally round in shape & this would be the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF)). Then from the other side of that are your two plastic hoses going to the throttle body. If this is the way the truck is then you have mass air.

If not then, "yes" you can get mass air for your truck. It is somewhat expensive but it can be done. Ford Racing has a kit to switch the truck over for $695.00 as along as it is an automatic.

By going to mass air, you have so much more capability of doing modifications to the motor. Which I assume you are planning on doing. Hope this helps.

Doesn't look good.....

Unless that pic is deceiving, it appears you may have the speed density setup. If the two throttle body hoses go into the airbox, this should be the case.

All the mass air trucks I have seen have a two into one tube before the air box so that a single mass air unit can be in line just before the box.

you mentioned that your truck was a 95, and i was almost positive that 95 302's had mass air from the factory (anyone want to back me up on that, im not really sure). but from the pic, it looks like a speed density system. well look on the bright side, at least you could install a mass air kit from the ford motorsports catalog!

yes the truck is a 1995 but was built in 1994. I think that ford motorsport only has a Mass Air kit for Autos mine is a 5spd. I know later in 1995 or so i have heard they had mass air and i have also heard that from 1993 the trucks had mass air that is what i want to know if mine is speed density or mass air.

if its not mass air and you cant find a mass air kit in the ford motorsports catalog, try checking with summit, because i know they carry a kit for my application (89 f-150 w/ 302 and 5 speed tranny) so they may have one for yours. good luck!

I don't know much about SD but judging from the picture it doesn't look like the Mass Air set up in my truck. I believe on the 95's most came with Mass Air but some still have SD.

It looks like you do have mass air to me. I may be wrong, but I thought all speed density trucks had smooth hoses. your 2 intake hoses are ribbed. Do the hoses go together into 1 before they go into your airbox? By the way they do make a kit for 5 speed trucks. It is not as common, but it is still available. Downs ford should be able to give you the part number.

Well if they dont come together before the filter box then it is not mass air. Downs ford is a dealership that specializes in high performance parts. I think their E-mail is www.downsford.com

I have to say that the smoothness of the hoses has nothing to do with mass air. My 96 has smooth hoses AND mass air. The easiest way to tell is to look between the air box and throttle body. Do any electronic cables plug in to a housing between these two points? If not, speed density. If so, mass air.

I have never seen a '95 with a MAF. I've read that they exist, and I've heard that they exist, but I've never seen one. My '95 has a 4.9L, and just about every service manual I've seen claims it's supposed to be MAF, but it's SD. I later learned that "some" California F-150's built in 1995 had MAF. The truth was that some 1996 F150's were to be released in California in 1995 to help Ford with meeting emission standards. They announced that all California 95 4.9's were to be MAF, but it didn't happen. I presume this is true for the 5.0, but I don't know that for a fact. I do know that if there are any, they are very rare.

That being said, why do you want MAF? SD is faster and stronger in a stock application. Even with minor mods, SD is better. Because the SD ECM's can't determine volume, they are factory programmed richer than MAF's are. MAF becomes undeniably the top choice when more severe mods come into play. If you're going to build a race truck, you're going to want a different MAF anyway, so consider yourself lucky.

Take care
~Chris
