89 AOD Shift problems

I have an 89 Ford F150 With the 302 and AOD transmission. i was sitting at a light an i poped a leak in the rear of my pan and the extension housing gasket bad enough that it would not drive. i changed the filter and gaskets. now it wont shift past 2nd gear. I changed the TPS after reading the codes but it still will not shift past 2nd. i know there is a limp mode in the newer style Trucks is there one in the 89. or does anyone have an idea as to what might be causing it. before the leak i had no shift issues what so ever this is my daily driver so i need it back on the road asap

Hate to say it, but running it low on fluid might have toasted it.

Let's see what other folks have to say. I sure hope it's a simple fix, but it sounds like it's due for a rebuild.

I was kinda figuring that. Just was hoping not to have to.
It wasn't low on fluid when the gaskets went and I shut it down right after they blew and had it towed home.

That's a respectable amount of mileage. Do you know if they changed the fluid once or twice?

The fluid that came out was black as night. But there were no shavings or chunks in the pan and there was no sparkle to the fluid that's why I hoped it would be ok.

Eh, that don't sound good.

Let's see what other folks say. I know some on here are familiar with the AOD.
