She’s back home.

Got old girl back from the shop today. Minus a tailgate, it got stolen at the shop. They’re looking for a replacement. Drives like a beast though!

While driving today, speedo got stuck at 40mph, then stopped working. The digital odometer display went blank too. All other dash gauges work. All fuses are intact. Any suggestions? Shop replaced a speed sensor, so I’m thinking it’s related. 1994 F150 302 4WD Any ideas? TIA

My vintage truck has a generic problem of the odometer going blank that is usually repaired by resoldering the circuit board. Do a search for details. I don't know if your vintage has the same generic problem.

Thanks Roadie! You’ve been a big help. I’ll recheck fuses and find the speedo plug and move on to soldering

For a new aftermarket tailgate, looks like it's 180 bucks complete plus 160 bucks shipping:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...,tailgate,1427

For used, try car-part.com, it's a junkyard search engine.

Doesn't the shop's insurance cover theft?

Man, I love Rock Auto! I’m going to look around for a few weeks. I have a lead on a supposed nice one, just waiting for it to come in.
They said it wasn’t covered by insurance. I take medicine to prevent violent outbursts and it worked today! 🤣. They said they’d do the right thing and try to find me one. All the ones they’ve found have rust and dents so I’m not sure if they’ll find a straight one.

When you get your new tailgate, get a small hose clamp, and clamp the tailgate so it can't be removed (easily).

You know the stupid thing is, I knew about the hose clamp deal. I just picked it up drove it home and to the shop the next day Never thought to do it. I’ll have to find the video on YouTube again.

Now the odometer is working. I’m gonna bet that the plug isn’t seated correctly. Haven’t had a chance to check it

Found a replacement for my stolen tailgate. Perfect color match. $50 and a hose clamp to lock ‘er down, even had the support cables. Lesson learned. It’s toooo easy to steal a tailgate and too hard to find a replacement.

You might want to consider one of these:

http://www.popandlock.net/manual-tai...ock/ford/f-150

Can be found a bit cheaper at etrailer.com and Amazon.

I’ll do more than consider it, I’m getting it! Thanks
