Where to go with this 1988 XL f150

Hey guys I'm 19 and this is my first vehicle and I'm not too familiar with how these things should look and whats acceptable and whats not. I wanted to do black out at first then i was told by my uncle that that's more for new trucks, i don't like chrome to be honest but it looks like I'm gonna have to stick with it because it has more of a classic look.
Id like any wisdom you guys can give me.

Honestly, Do what YOU want. Screw what anyone says. If you want to black it out, black it out! If you want to run chrome rims on it, do it! There's no specific look for these trucks in my opinion. I have an 89 long bed with newer truck rims on it and the older guys hate it around my neighborhood because I got rid of the "classic" look..But I like it so that's all that matters..And my buddies run the bullethole wheels(classic look). They all look good, I would just suggest to mute everyone out and go with what you like man.
But you have tons of options for your truck to make it cooler than it already is. If it was me personally, I'd do a few inches of lift and 33/35's and call it a day..Not sure what style you're looking to go with though...And I see you're in St Pete..When you decide to do something, I would suggest to make the drive out to Ideal Automotive in Tampa and talk to Chris there...Outstanding shop and an outstanding staff. Can do lifts/tires/wheels/paint/lights/ anything you can think of.

I have a couple questions also, how big is that lift, how did you black out your tail lights, and did you plastidip/paint your badges?
Thanks man! It has 6" Suspension lift and 3" Body lift. I used the "Nightshade VHT" spray to tint them. & about the badges, I had them off when I was about to get the truck painted and they were in crappy shape so I was planning on buying new ones so I said what they hey, let's spray paint the old ones..And they came out great so I stuck them back on there haha. And then I had the guy who painted my truck have his detailer paint the inside white to make it pop.

Body lifts are definitely cheap if you can do the install yourself, if not install can go 500+ depending where you go.
And I definitely say black it out! The blacked out look on white trucks looks sweet!

Where to go with it? Offroad that's what Id do
Blacked out with a white truck looks awesome Im a big fan. Your uncle is dead wrong, sure the new ones look awesome but so do the old ones. Small lift and 33's or 35's wouldn't be to much work and would look very nice. Take your time and do what you like, buy parts you see and think would look good on yours. Build it how you want it to be. These trucks have endless potential just like any other year and model
Edit: And when I say blacking out from what you have I mean leave the paint white and black out and tint everything else. It looks real clean I have two friends that have white paint all black everything else, one on a 97 powerstroke and one on a 2013 powerstroke and they look real good. I've always liked completely black and also red and black too though, like I said a million possibilities but if you keep your truck white paint it saves a couple bucks for other mods
