so i tried searching through the search bar but no luck. I have removed almost everything but cant seem to remove the actuator. It was broken from the metal piece that goes into the actual column. If anyone has a how-to on it or tips please help..thanks

 

i ground a peice of the aluminum housing so i could finegal it out once i did that the old one came out and new one went in easy

 

Hey projectgt, mine broke last Monday. I'm not sure exactly what your problem is, but I had to put the tilt steering all the way down to get that piece out. Or you should be able to reach around from the back and pop it out. There's a guy on youtube that did a video on it, he'll also give you a tip about cutting the new one to get it back in. I am probably gonna redo mine, drop the column and use the stock key lock switch, dropping the column is so easy on these trucks really. He says about cutting it and sliding it in, works fine that way, but stock is stock ya know.

 

Hey Russo, That's the video I watched. A bit redneck, but oddly enough reminded me of myself. Lol. Anyway, I wasn't able to get the actuater in there without cutting it. If I wanted to go through the hassle of removing the springs and whatnot associated with the tilt wheel, I would have. Just seemed a little intimidating. Plus it was like 16* that day. Of course. I think that may have played a role in the actuater breaking, cause it was so cold. Well, good luck, and please let me know how you make out. Thanks, Peace, Dave.

 

I did mine the same way as he did after trying to get it in there whole.
If I had a show truck I would worry about it being perfect.
But, I do need new bearing in there.. so come spring it will probably be getting everything from the wheel to the rag joint.

 

Hey Russo, I'm assuming you have tilt wheel? Like I said, there's alot that needs to happen if you're to get that new actuater in there whole. I was afraid the wheels wouldn't lock after cutting off that piece, but mine do, so I'll just go ahead and count that as a success. Glad to hear it worked out for you, Peace, Dave.

 

Yeah I've been in there a handful of times. I've had the column and pedals out.. I've had most of the truck apart haha.
The wheel will still lock, but you no longer need to depress that little button under the column to turn the key to off.
Mine has been rocking the half actuator for over a year now.

 

Hey Russo, geez, I thought this was a new problem you were having. Lol.This is the first time I've had to rip the column apart. Thankfully, I don't have that stupid button, maybe that's what the nub is for. Gotta keep these ol' babies running. Thanks for posting back. Peace, Dave.

 

I've got a 1995 F150 5 speed std same problem only different part cannot locate that part any where. cannot find the problem after taking the entire steering column apart fromthe dash forward-- could it be the key switch--was checked by a locksmith he said it was ok
any help appreciatede

 

Weellll, your truck doesn't use this part. Ended with the 91's
