IIRC Ford 300s skipped the TBI and went to port EFI from the feed back carbs in the mid 80s. Some one could have converted to a TBI but that would involve a different computer and ignition system. Post some pics with the Air cleaner off and some close ups of the distributer and we might have some answers.
Almost all EFI systems (TBI or Multiport) use an electric fuel pump which you should here run for a second or two after the key is turned. The carb mechanical fuel pump was mounted on the drivers side toward the front of the block which I don't see in your Pics.

its definetly a 4.9 300 c.d.i. but im not sold on the year of the engine it be too much work to cover efi to carberated ud have to change the head intake carb distributer. but hay u never know maybe the guy did do all that work but only the low end would be a 87+ everything else is an 84 so when u want parts u want 84 parts

Atleast I know Its a 300 straight six 4.9 than and probably a 87 above ford engine. But wouldnt I want 87 parts when I bought them. Because Its a fuel InJected motor which would be 87, but has carbs and manifold off a 84, but wouldnt the parts I get still should be off a 87.

no 84
in order to make a 87+ work for a carb u have to
change the HEAD bc the injectors go into the head NOT the manifold like v8s
then ud have to change the manifold and the carb
then change ur distributer/coil
the altinator power seering pump and everything is for an 84 so all ur replacement parts ar for and 84

the only thing the guy used was a 87+ block and the block is the same so NO 87+ parts

Did you click any of the thumbnails I posted back on p.1? That's an '87-93 4.9L engine (originally EFI) with what appears to be the original '84 carb, intake, & exhaust manifolds swapped onto it. I'm curious how they have the ignition system wired up because it can't work right without an EEC to give it advance information, so it's probably running at base timing all the time. If you want to know what year the engine is, read the white label behind the upper radiator hose on the front of the valve cover.

Ford never put TBI on a FS truck, and never on the I6.

4.9L injectors fire into the lower intake, just like on every other engine.

What Is base timing Is that bad. Im not sure how they switched It over. I know they did. It was a guy who I guess switched It over but he switched It over for the guy we bought It from and the guy we bought It from didnt know much about It.

The first picture looks like the engine but the second picture looks different. A quote from another user on another forum about this truck. -Looks like it has the TFI ignition system on it to.- If that answers the Ignition courisity.
