Converting 93 f150 rear axle to 250 1 ton axle

Converting 93 f150 rear axle to 250 1 ton axle

Am I being to silly or is it possible to Take the rear axle assembly out of under a 93 f250 and putting it under my f150 and everything still work just the same but more towing power and heaver springs for heavier loads? or am I just being dumb haha thanks all.

Your towing capacity will still be limited by:
The F150 frame which is substantially weaker than an F250 version
The F150 brakes which are smaller than the F250's
If you have a manual tranny or a possibly even a 4R70W beefing up the axle doesn't increase the overall strength of the driveline

I got an AOD tranny about to swap for an E40D tranny Thinking about swapping my 5.0 to a 5.8 and if I get the 1 ton axle it will increase my rear end strength and not sag as much when I put a load on it and I plan on boxing in the frame when I take the bed off to work on it anyway so frame will be fine and I'm not really worried about the breaks being smaller because I'm not going to be hauling a 50' camper or somthing crazy just a car hauler from time to time and a utility. But with all of the variables is it possible?

What exactly is stronger on the frame? I seem to remember reading on a forum somewhere that there's no difference between F150s and F250s, but the F350 is only slightly thicker.

make sure u take the springs or else the 1 ton rear woulnt do u any good. and ull need diffrent rims

should bolt right in and bleed the breaks. the 5.0s aint the best for towing the 5.8 or 4.9 are your best bets 4.9 if u want fuel economy.

i have a 4.9 with t18 2wd its the low first manual trans 1/2 ton with 1 ton coils so i got half ton leafs with 1 tone coils i can tow anything no problem with stock half tone 3.55 rear i towed 34 foot camper trailers close to 3 tons of scrap without a problem

There are many differences, and an F250 is a 3/4-ton; not 1-ton. Changing the axle won't make the truck a 3/4-ton, and it won't increase the payload capacity, or the trailer capacity. It will actually reduce both because of the extra weight of the heavier axle. If you need an F250, put your engine/trans into the junk F250, or buy a complete running 3/4-ton.

It should be legal as long as I'm not hauling to much, Yeah the 302 is more for high end hp instead of low end torque but It's done just fine for me even with 240k miles I'm gonna get my 1 ton axle put it in and see how she scoots if it sucks and it's worse then I'll scrap it or sell it and put my original in if it's better or the same who cares I'll leave it under it anyway It's not like I'm going to pull a cargo ship or something crazy I just want more rear end power and strength so If I put 3000lb of something in my bed I don't have to worry about bending my axles.

u shouldnt bend the axels ive put more then that in my trucks with 1/2 ton axels and never had a problem. like i said i have a 4.9 with a low geared manual trans and 3.55 gears i hauld close to 3 tons with out a problem the only modifications ive done to the truck isadded 1 ton coils under the truck and tortion bars on the trailer. and the weight was distributed between the truck and trailer

and the 1 ton coils i put in only cost me $45 and worth every penny

I've put enough weight on my hitch hauler to lift the front wheels off the ground, and I didn't bend my 8.8" axles. I've pulled a stalled Peterbilt dump truck up a hill hard enough to shatter the yoke on the rear diff, and I didn't bend the axles (the yoke was already cracked).

I still think you're going to a lot of trouble for nothing, but you certainly have that right.

the whole thing that started all this was the fact that my springs are shot on my rear i put 1800lb in my bed and i was frame on axles and bumper on ground, I'm not worried about pulling power I pulled a 20,000lb grain wagon full of corn through the mud in my 2wd truck to hook up to another wagon that our tractor couldn't move I'm worried about bed weight I need heavier springs and if I'm going to the trouble to cut 1ton springs out of a junk truck at a parts yard might as well take the axle too right? It won't hurt anything thats what my question was I knew I could do it I just don't want to hurt my truck being a poor 17 year old with 3 jobs and no money already don't wanna have to pay for a rebuild kit for my tranny or anything you know haha
