well if anything funny should happen the next time around i know but it worked fine in there for 118,000 miles and hopfully newer tech today means they might have it figured out?
so your saying this brand new alternator this is not a reman one using the same tech from 1992 and they have been putting the same stuff in them to make them catch fire even after they knew it was a prob?? i have a hard time beliving that...and if the truck does catch on fire 800 bucks down the tube. prob get 400 for scrap price IF it does happen but i dont forsee a prob

well now it wont start it did this when we first got it i trimed up the postive cable and it worked fine for a while now all the sudden it wont start. the batt is good the lights dont dim or anything. just one CLICK CLICK.
the lil red wire on the starter was off when we got it i pluged it in and it worked ever since. think the start finaly puked?

Check the starter side of the starter relay fro +12v when you are trying to start it (have someone in the cab trying to start it for you). Also check allyour ground to make sure they're solid (good connections).
Known weak point:
The main battery ground cable corrodes out at the intermediate point where it grounds to the frame rail at the wheel well arch.
Solution: Replace the ground cable with one that runs from the battery down to the block ground at the starter flange. Add a second cable (with eye lugs on both ends) that runs up from the starter flange to the chassis ground. No more corrosion.
