clutch and tranny rebuild

Im looking to rebuild both of them, wondering if you guys had any opinions on brand.
For the clutch, any opinions on material would be good. I was thinking OEM, I have 150k on a 21 year old truck, original clutch, and shes done a lot of towing, so how bad can the stock one be?

any opinions/stories would be great

I replaced my clutch when I bought my truck. It had 241k some on the original clutch and hydraulic system.
The clutch plate was not that bad, the guy babied this truck like no other. But the hydraulics were shot.
I would suggest replacing everything clutch related, except the master cylinder if it isn't bad I didn't go for that but you haaaave to replace the line from master to slave.
I used all oem parts and that is all you need unless you are making a bunch of power.
Also some specs on your truck would help for suggesting parts. 1989 f150... engines trans n so on.
Good luck to ya.

You just about can't go wrong with MotorCraft parts, and yes: a new Ford clutch costs more than something from the zone, but it'll probably last LONGER than the original since it's built with newer materials & technology.

For the trans, buy a quality name-brand kit from NAPA, CarQuest, Parts+Plus, or a local transmission shop. Which transmission do you have?

Not trying to hi-jack, but I have a 4spd. How hard would it be to rebuild? 180k miles and after I drive it for 20 mins or so it is hard to get into gear.

There are about 6 possible 4speeds. You're gonna have to be more specific. Read this caption:

And how hard it is depends on you. Some people consider converting from a 1G to a 3G alternator hard; others consider rebuilding a C6 easy. But hard shifting, by itself, isn't a sign of a worn-out trans.

Well with a set of instructions. I could build a nuclear bomb. I have the BW T-18 4sp
So in a scale of 1-10 with one being changing an alternator and ten being your first complete rebuild of an engine with no instructions. Where would rebuilding this tranny be?

I couldn't say - I've never rebuilt a T18. The only trans I've ever rebuilt was a Land Rover, and it was about a 7 for me.

Converting my '94 CV to use a '00 engine/trans/harness & '99 PCM was about a 5. But I think an old cast-iron box like that should be pretty low for you. It'll probably be pretty similar to an NP435 (which I also have NOT rebuilt yet, but I have 3 waiting), and with some Googling, you should be able to find instructions like this:

It's already there - you just have to READ THE CAPTION of that diagram in my previous post, and follow the links in it.
