Meep Meep

What she don't do no more...meep meep.
When I bought my truck the horn was well weak, roadrunner meep meep weak.
I wasn't too concerned, but now that it's gotten colder and stuffs freezing it quit working all together, except for a couple of times after the truck was warm for a little.
I can still hear the relay in the golvebox area clicking but no hron sound.
And recently it dims the lights when i hit the horn button and the voltmeter goes down some.
So what should I do?

Okay captain obvious I wasn't sure if there was something else I should just check first or not.
I honestly liked the weak horn, I was kinda known for having a loud *** truck with the weak *** horn hahaha.
I really want some train horns, but I know I need an actual horn for normal use anyway.

You mean like check at the horn with a volt meter to see if you've got 12v going to it when the relay clicks? Why bother? It's so much more productive to just throw parts at it only to find out that there's a bad connection.

Yeah something like that strange.
Next question, where in the hell is the horn.. I'm guessing between the radiator a/c condenser and grille somewheres?

Russo, I was just poking fun, don't be mad at me.

Ok now, I'm not trying to be a donkey, but did the horn get dunked when your truck "got wet"? If so it's probably toast. Usually if they get soaked they don't have much life left in them, but you might get lucky.
I think it's located about where you said by the frame rail.

Lower front side of RH radiator support.
And there's actually 2 of them. Yours was doing the "meep, meep" because it had lost one of them much earlier, now it's lost the second one

Captain obvious strikes again, with something I forgot about.
It definitely got soaked that day, but hey..she likes it wet. However the horn worked before and after the soaking just the same.

Got a foot of snow right now or I'd go check em out. Pulling the grille be the easiest way? If so how do I get it out, I know three of the points are clips and one seems like there is a bolt holding it, but I can't see anything.

It's been over 2 years since I pulled mine out (had bad grounds), but it i remember right I had to lay on the ground and reach up behind the bumper\supports. I could be wrong though. Also once you have them out, you can clean the connections and check it on a 12v source (truck battery). When\If they work, they will be 2 seperate tones, it is supposed to be that way, a low and a high (this is a big reason that honda\ricers horns have the road runner sound stock, only one tone).

I think the way the horn works is it's like a little motor that runs to make the sound, or I could be completely full of poop on that one. Any way if that is how they work and there is still some water inside maybe it's frozen and causing it not to meep meep for ya.

Just a thought.

Captian Obvious to the rescue....dootlie-doot-de-do!

If you are correct on how the horn works then that makes the most sense, when the horn button is hit it dims the lights and puts a strain on the battery and what not.
Hopefully this weekend I will actually have time to check it.
Thanks captain obvious

You should be able to pick up a couple of horns at the bone yard pretty cheap, I would think.

And it's not exactaly a "motor" but there are moving parts in there. So maybe that's it.

Post what you find out.
GOOD LUCK, jim

They use a single wire connector and the horns ground directly to the support.
I'd bet on corroded ground points

Very well could be, he sunk the truck awhile ago.
