New to the Pre-1997 forum

Just bought a 95 standard cab 351 2wd long bed. Completely stock. Im replacing my 2003 Harley F150 with this for daily driver duties.

Anyway, Im not looking to do anything crazy, but I want to do a couple tasteful mods to mainly improve the efficiency and power of this thing. Right off the bat its getting a Magnaflow catback. Its been pretty well maintained, but I am going to go through the truck from front to back. All new fluids and tune up. They say it currently gets about 16mpg average. Im hoping to better that with just complete maintenance overhaul considering it has only had 5k miles put on it in 3 years and they said it hasnt had a tuneup since 2001.

Just wondering what else is going to help my on this. Should I replace the cats as well? Or even go as far as long tubes?

What about the intake side? Any suggestions are appreciated.

welcome!

i just swapped in a 351 in my truck, i have since put 1,000 miles on it in 2 weeks. on the highway ive been averaging just under 14 mpg which is better than my 302 which averaged 12.2 on a 2,200 mile trip. see my signature for mods and the last page of "5.0 to 5.8 swap" thread for exhaust videos...

Glad to hear ya got a 95! I think you're gonna like the 351. I have 160,000 on mine and it's still goin strong. Before winter came around, goin down the highway with the cruise set on 65 I could get 16-17 mpg. With the cruise set on 55 I can get 18-19.

If I were you, I wouldn't replace the cats if I didn't have to, but I try to leave all that stuff stock so it's up to you. You can go to a Ford garage and they can hook a computer up to it and take a reading on the cats to see if they're clogged.

Ignition upgrade &Timing bump:http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump (I perfer 16BTDC to 13.5BTDC as the link suggests/ depends on the general health of the engine) K&N drop in for MAP/ CAI mod for MAF. For the more adventurous, sidegap:http://performanceunlimited.com/docu...degapping.html I'm getting 18/23 MPG w/ my 87'302/87K miles/87 octane

Not too worried about clogged cats. I have just heard from a couple people that they are very restrictive. I work at a shop, so maggy high flows cost me about $50.

I have Magnaflow mids/catback on my 03 and it sounds badass and picked up a lot of power, so Im probably going to do a single 3" with the Magnaflow on the 95.

I found a K&n intake kit for it. Anyone else running that setup?

If I could get 17+mpg it will pay for itself in a hurry. Im only averaging 12.5 or so on the harley not to mention thats 93 octane. I figure getting 5mpg better plus the less expensive maintenance ($12 oil change vs. $50) the truck should pay for itself in about 20,000 miles.

Cant wait to get that thing in the shop and spend a couple hours with the buffer to really make it shine!

Those OBX long tubes on ebay are tempting...

it should say either 5.0 or 5.8 on the upper intake manifold.

Yeah it does. The lady on craigslist said it was the biggest motor they had available, but obviously she was mistaken.
