Is this illegal?

Hey, I had to remove my bed to get to my fuel pump and i don't feel like putting it back on until i can get some money for the parts. So will it be illegal to drive around without the bed on if i ziptie my tail lights to my bumper?

Thanks!

its not exactly the smart way to do it but i dont think its illegal. you may want to check with your local laws if they even have one for that

well i am helping my sister remodel her house before her first child comes along this December and it is only 13 miles from my house to hers so it shouldn't be a big problem since i still have working tail, brake, and turn signals.

Not sure if it is legal or not, find a local cab&chassis truck and see how it is set up.

Not really illegal. It just a piece of metal. It's just like muscle cars that drive around with no hood. No1 says anything to them. I got a buddy with an old gmc that rolls no bed and 37s with stacks.

You should be good with tail lights and signals and license plate

i seen a few trucks around here with no truck beds and the taillights zip tied to the bumper. no one bothered them. ill find out soon enough when i swap beds on mine. ill be dam sure to take it for a ride with no bed just for kicks.

only thing i can think of is debris coming off the tires. maybe put some temporary mud flaps on? i dunno

It's illegal in most states for the tires to be exposed because they can throw rocks. That's why even utility trailers have wheelwells.

But it's another matter whether or not a cop would pull you over for it, even if it's illegal in GA.

Eh, fasten a sheet of OSB plywood (cheap!) to it and call it a flat bed. Mount the lights and license plate to that. Then you can still drive your truck and have protection from rocks being slung around.

I drove around for a month without my bed, freeways too. Even had cops behind me at times and they never hassled me. I did zip-tie the taillights and plate to the frame though.

It will bounce around A LOT more without that weight back there.

Well, We have some rain heading into the north GA area tonight so i decided to put the bed back on until i can get the parts for my front tank (Pump & Sender are bad) but i need a Radiator before i get the sender & pump so being without a job it will take me a while to get those items. Thanks for the help and suggestions though!
