bad gas economy

I have a 92 f150 i just purchased. It is a flairside with a 4" suspension lift and 33x12.5 tires. Its a 302 and has dual exhaust and no cat. If i fill both gas tanks i can get about 200 miles. Is this normal. What do i need to fix if not?

what gear ratio are you running? those tires aint helping fuel mileage any. dual exhaust as in true duals or catback? if true duals then what did you do with the o2 sensor? whats the mileage? ever been tuned up?

200 miles per tank? or combined? i get about 450 miles combined on the highway. over a 2000 mile road trip i burned 157 gallons so i average about 12.7 on the highway thats with 35's and stock gear ratio. i suggest a tune-up, replace the o2 sensor and if you have stock gears have either 4.10's or 4.56's installed...

when i first bought my truck it appeared that i must have done the first tune-up ever on my truck, plugs had almost 1/8" gap... it ran way better afterward

You need to do 2 things - correct your odometer for the oversize tires, and do the actual math to determine gas mileage - miles driven divided by how much gas it takes to fill it back up.

Take it out on the Interstate and see what the odometer reads as compared to the mileposts. Let's say you drive 10 miles but the odometer only shows you went 9 miles - that means if the odometer reads 200 miles, you really went 222 miles. 8th grade math.

10/9 = x/200
x = 200*10/9

I think perhaps he wants to re-calibrate it so it reads correctly.

Do a search there are re-calibration instructions which have been posted several times in this forum. Try searching "re-calibration" "calibration" "calibration constant" and "PSOM" one or more of them should yield what you need.
