We used the distributor out of my original motor because the plug in is different on the one that came on the motor I got. Using the trucks original ignition module and yeah i routed the spark plug wires the way they were in the diagram. I'm using the coil that was on the truck but I tried using the coil off the new motor but it didnt change anything. I dont have a fuel pressure gauge so I cant check the pressure.

did that motor even come out of a truck? you said it was rebuilt- maybe they changed the cam. i really would try the other firing order just in case.

Yeah it was in a 86 F150, the guy rebuilt it and used it for a little bit then he took the motor out and scraped the truck because it was a rust bucket. He said when it was rebuilt they replaced the cam but it was just a stock replacement.

Get a fuel pressure gauge.

The cam for a carb engine isn't the same as for an EFI (in several ways) and neither are the timing cover, water pump, block, intake/exhaust manifolds... I hope you stripped it to a short block & then transferred EVERYTHING. It might eventually run, but it'll never be right until you get the right cam in it.

Actually it had EFI on it also. But we got the motor running fine finally and then figured out the problem is the tranny. Its all messed up
