MODS TO COMPUTER
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET MY COMPUTER REPROGRAMED FOR A SPEED DENSITY ENGINE?(LOTS OF MODS)
I GUESS THERE HAS TO BE A PLACE I COULD SEND IT OUT TO.

Hi santa,
You don't need to send your computer out to have a chip programmed, unless whoever is going to do it doesn't happen to have that particular computer code on hand. In fact, there is no way to get another program into the factory eprom chip in those EEC-4 computers, you have to use the J3 connector on the back of it, using a performance chip.
If you need custom programming done, you might want to give us a call and let's discuss exactly what types of mods you've got done to this speed-density vehicle, and we can let you know what can and cannot be done, etc. Our contact info is just below for your convenience.

Hi dvldog458,
You're going to have to use the Ford Motorsports mass-air conversion kit, *and* have a custom chip done for it, to make all of that work correctly, is most likely what you're going to find.
Speed-density systems will not tolerate camshaft & cylinder head & injector size changes like that, at least, I have yet to ever see one run properly, because they use a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor for the basic load signal to the engine instead of a mass airflow meter, and it's inherently not going to be anywhere near as "forgiving" of mechanical modificatios like you're doing. When you change camshafts, you throw off that load signal if that cam has a different lobe centerline, duration, or overlap, which they almost always do, of course.
By all means, if you already have all of that stuff ordered & paid for, install it all and see what happens, but be prepared to convert to mass air *and* have a custom chip made to tie it all together properly.
Let us know what happens with this, and if you find you need some help on the computer side, we're just a phone call away.
Best of luck with this!

Mike,
Sounds good.I received all those aftermarket parts today.
Also,i picked up an edelbrock performer upper and lower intake too.
Friday,my buddy and i will be putting all those parts on.
I'll let you know how i make out.
It's gonna take me a couple of weeks to save up for the MAF conversion kit,and the new chip from you.
I CAN'T STOP NOW.....
Thanks again Mike,
Jerry D.

Mike,
Just got done with the truck.
It came out great!Runs perfect. No problems. It just has alittle mis at idle, but that was there before i started the project.
We even added some extra stuff like a malory fuel pressure reg,msd 6a ignition, edelbrock 56mm throttle body with an airade throttle body spacer, motorsport roller rockers, carter throttle position sensor enhancer,K&N air filter charger kit,and trick-flow intake/plenum heat spacer.
Most of these parts were used, but in good cond.
We broke her in for about 2 hrs then changed all the fluids.
Then i beat the snot out of her!
What a difference all that stuff made.
All the guys down at the shop agreed that we should have converted over to MAF,but it all worked out perfect.
Have you ever heard about someone doing all these mods to a speed density engine......and it run good?
What do you think about a computer chip now?
Maybe i'll get alittle more.......LOL.
I'm gonna send a pic of my truck to your email address.Let me know what you think about all of this.
Thanks again,
Jerry D.
