Question Engine cutting out on 95 4.9 I-6 during acceleration

OK, I have changed the fuel filter. Put in a K&N filter (not the kit). Changed the oil and filter and it still is doing this.

It's a standard, and this happens in any gear. I have watched the guage cluster and none of the gauges are dropping during this. So I am left with a few options. It's either fuel line trouble, or electrical.

I haven't done anyhting else to it but I was hoping that someone had come across this and might be able to help me out. Thanks in advance.

You might want to have your ignition system checked out thoroughly, as bad coil packs can do this, and I don't remember off the top of my head which ignition system you have on the 95 4.9 "Big 6".

Assuming all fuel delivery componets are in good shape, such as the fuel filter, fuel pump, etc., then ignition system should be checked.

This could be a fuel pump issue, so you'll want to check that as well.

Good luck, & do let us know what it turns out to be.

Well I am thinking that it isn't a fuel pump problem as I have dual tanks and I am pretty sure that there are two seperate pumps. This happens on either tank so I would think that it is happening somewhere after the fuel filter.

Can you, or anyone, maybe give me an idea of how much I'm looking at to get the ignition system checked?

Also last night I saw on TV that there was some recall on 8?-95 Fords for the ignition system. Am I maybe experiencing one of these recall conditions?

The honest answer is you won't know until you have a dealer check it, to see if you are affected by this ignition-related recall. I don't know which FOMoCo vehicles are affected by this recall, your vehicle may be part of it or not, I just don't have that info, sorry I can't be more help.

As far as what a dealer is going to charge you for "diagnosis", that varies from one shop to the next, and what is actually wrong with the truck.

If they connect your vheicle to the SBDS system, which is what they normally do, that usually runs about $70 or so to scan for error codes.

Good luck!

Thanks for all your help Mike. I'll take it down here to Fred Jones and have them hook it up and see what they can tell me.

I'd put my money on dirty injectors. Try running some injector cleaner through the system, and see if it makes any difference. If it does, even the slightest bit, then you know that your injectors should be cleaned professionally, or replaced.

Just for the sake of eliminating a possible problem, pull the vacuum line off the top of your fuel pressure regulator and see if there's any fuel present in the line. If there is, you've got a bad regulator which will need to be replaced.

The 95 uses the TFI ignition module, which is somewhat prone to failure, but unless I'm mistaken, on the 95 it's mounted on the firewall in a heat sink, not directly on the distributor. That change alone solved most of the reliability problems with the TFI.

I disconnected the vacumn line on the egr valve and after the truck warmed up the engine light came on, but it still has a stumble. So I reconnected the line and the engine light went out,
but it still has a stumble at all speeds when it is warm.

I have run injector cleaner through it in the past, but I will try it again.

I do not have a vacuum line on thr fuel pressure reg.

thanks again

Why do you not have a vacuum line attached to your FPR?

Have you tested your TPS?
