Aftermarket Intakes
I think when you get a FIPK, the entire piping system is removed, the 94-newer hoses, are one single unit from the throttle to the air box, and the baffle from the top of the radiator and the entire box is removed as well.
I'm looking for feedback on air intake mods, K&N injection kit for example. I have a 94 F150 with a 302/auto. The intake looks fairly complicated, with a snorkle looking device to draw air in from the front. Just wondering if anyone had installed an aftermarket kit and if there was any performance improvements.
Thanks for the info. K&N only has their original injection kit for the 94, not the generation II. Has anyone installed this on their pre-97 302 V8? It looks to me like it will suck in all the engine heated air under the hood, offsetting some of its benefits.
My opinion -however wrong it may be- is that it's better to suck hot air than no air. YMMV
I've thought about the K&N for my '93, but just can't justify the cost for a new set of tubes and a filter. So, I just got the drop-in filter.

K&N's F.I.P.K. kit completely eliminates the factory airbox, and you end up with a very nice conical filter on the end of the throttle assembly, and it's a very neat job in every vehicle they make them for. I highly recommend them, if an Airaid brand kit isn't available. Airaid is another manufacturer of airbox elimination kits just like K&N's pretty much, and it's available here in the F150online store. I don't think Airaid makes a unit for the older trucks, so you may have to go K&N. Either kit will work just fine, and they are complete, so you don't have to worry about anything being left unfinished.
Good luck!

Thats what I did, 165 dollars was quite a deal, but I decided to keep the difference in money and save for a diesel.
Dude told me that there was more oxygen in cold air, thus creating more mpg and hp, so he told me removing the baffle was a bad thing, but Tenderpaw said that he noticed no difference in mpg.

This is where I got creative. I received the FIPK two years ago at Christmas for my 4.9. I had it mounted where it's supposed to be (in place of the old air box), and noticed a big difference. A BIG difference. I agreed, however, that this could be improved upon. I ended up seperating the two intake tubes, reversing them (front to back), and re mounting the filter down by the p/s pump, close to the front core support. I then wedged the rubber flap, next to the radiator, out ward so that there is a direct passage for air from the front of the truck directly to the filter. I can't say if that made a difference or not, but it looks cool and satisfies my need to customize everything I do. It's kinda like a Ram Air effect in that it can now draw in cooler, outside air. I then used the space created by removing the factory airbox to mount my Crane HI 6 box, but decided the stock ignition was better.

It's speed density, unfortunatly, but it still made a noticable improvement (the FIPK). It actually gave my truck a power band, which it didn't really have before. I later thought about reversing the top of the stock air box, and mounting it where I now have the FIPK, and I noticed a big drop in power. The best way I can describe the difference between the stock air box and the FIPK is like this: You know the power difference you have when the a/c is off vs. on ? Well, that's about the difference between the FIPK and the stock air box.

I had the Crane HI 6 box left over from a race car I use to have, and thought I'd give it a try. I was dissapointed. My truck actually had more power and pep with the stock ignition. I have also tried different coils, and had the same results until I put in a Crane PS 91. That was the only coil that didn't create a decrease in power. I can't say that it made an improvement, but at least it didn't get worse. I should also note that I use Accel 300+ race wires and Champion Truck Plugs (I noticed a small improvement with the plugs, too).
Take care guys,
~Chris

PKRWUD--I have thought about getting a little more hp and mpg, I like what I get now, but more can't hurt. Several people have complained about the ignition's not living up to there expectations. Oh well,

Do it.

Hey, that was just my results. Yours may be different. An aftermarket ign. box isn't cheap, so see if someone you know has one you can try out. What is your set up, and what mods do you have. Horsepower is one of my specialties. I might be able to help you.
Take care,
~Chris

The first thing I would get for your '93 is a B&M Shift Plus electronic shift improver, part # 70381. Second I would get a set of Crane 1.7 roller rockers. Total cost: Under $300. Big improvement in power and performance.
Take care,
~Chris
