89 Rear end Leak

The rear end on my 89 is leaking. It is seeping out the front where it attaches to the U-Joint. My question is am I going to have to remove the gears to get to the seal or am I gonna be able to remove the u-joint and that little plastic cover to get to it? Never really messed with rear ends with the exception of changing the oil. Appreciate the help.

Remove the drive shaft where it mounts to the pinion yolk. (U-joint or pinion flange)
Remove the pinion nut and remove the pinion yolk.
Remove the pinion seal.
Install new seal.
Put it back together..... voila.

Oh yeah, top off your gear oil when you're done.

Thanks for the good news I'm glad I don't have to tear it completely down.
