What has happened is the aluminum bracket that holds the clutch/brake pedal has worn out. The dealer where I work has this part in stock. It's easy to tell, just lay under the pedals and look up while pushing on the clutch lever. You will see the lever move rather than just pivot. Replacing the bracket and bushings will fix it the right way.

I had same problem, had to stand on the clutch pedal to engage the safety switch. My problem was that the bushing that the pedal shaft rotates on had eaten itself up and was gone. The fix was easy. One of your local auto parts stores that carries "Motormite" or "Help" parts, the little red packages of assorted parts for all makes/models, will have a package of about 5 or 6 assorted bushings, nylon and brass. Should only cost about $3 for the package. I believe a white nylon bushing was the exact match for the one that was eaten up. Not every auto parts store has every Help part, so you may have to look around.
