she obviously doesn't understand how to appraise a truck. but she is letting you use it for free and you should pay to do the maintenance and fix what goes wrong while you drive it. and if you decide to do expensive mods like K&N filters and the such then you need to bight the bullet.

try the kiss and hug thing it works

the filter is really not what im talking about.. even the exhaust.. im talking about like engine mounts.. radiator/waterpump/tires/brakes/oil changes/tune-ups/oil recievers that kinda stuff more-so... i mean.. i know she is abusing the fact that I have a job and money.. so im doing all of this crap into the truck then she turns around and says its like paying rent for using it.. that is **** wrong with HER truck that I payed for... I was planning on spending if not all most of my christmas money on fixing exhaust leak and oil gasket leak.. on her truck... screw that...

i bought mine for 450. I put in about 400 in parts and most of the labor done by moi. And then my tag inspection ins blah blah blah was 107. Then insurance DROPPED 25 a month from my accord to something like 100 a month. so for the first months expense for me it was about 1100. In your budget my man! Craigslist-The website for "Im broke; but i want it bad"

Well I personally agree with her on that. If your using it, it's your job to maintain it. She shouldn't have to fix the crap you tear up on her truck and you should give it back in as good or better condition than you took it. Now living at home, does add some grace to that typically, but not required you should still respect her and her truck.

Thats how it goes when you use someone elses stuff.
I did the same thing before I bought my truck, my jeep blew up and I borrowed a friends 96 blazer for 2.5 months while I looked for a truck. It was just her spare bad weather winter rig, she hadn't used it in several months.
In that 2.5 months that I had it, I did 2 oil changes, replaced the 8 year old battery, and replaced the alternator that aslo went out while I had it. I also fixed her 4wd for her replaced some vaccum lines, and some odds and ends electrical and stuff to make everything work right again. Then before I gave it back to her, I spent 8-10 hours detailing the interior, engine, undercarriage and paint.
She got it back and she thought that I had bought her a new vehicle, it was in that much better shape.
A month later she sold it for alot more than she would have gotten otherwise, if I hadnt borrowed it and done all that stuff to it. I didnt get a dime for the parts I'd put in or the time I spent working on it. I didnt expect to get anything, that is how you treat people when they are nice enough to loan it to you. The $190 alternator and $30 battery was unfortunate but it happened while I had it so was my responsibility. Thats less than my truck payment for one month, muchless 2.5 months. So I still made out alright.
Now if something happened and I needed to borrow a vehicle or anything else again, and if she had one, then she'll be more than happy to loan it to me. Becasue she knows that she wll get it back in as good or better condition than she loaned it.

All that said, no way I would pay what she wants for it, let her try to sell it for that. I'd go buy my own, I'd find one newer and/or in better condition for less $$$ and give hers back. You can probably find a 97-2001 Ext cab (2000+ has 4 doors) short bed, 4wd with 5.4L, for what she wants out of that reg cab, 2wd, I6, long bed......
Nothing on her truck is desireable for anything other than a work truck and no one is going to pay $6K for an older work truck with that many miles.

Ya know... she never had to let you drive it in the first place. You could be doin the 2 step shuffle all around town.

Look... sit down and honestly figure out how much money you've put into that truck for necessities (regular & general maint... not "mods").
Now, sit down and figure out how muh you would've paid for your own truck. Payments, ins., registration... on top of maint.

She's doin you a favor, and regardless of what she thinks she'll get for it when she sells... that her issue. You... you're acting like a fu(king child (which you are). You come on here with your big E-***** rippin on your mom callin her names and saying how you're gonna let her vehicle go to pot... what's her phone # and/or email? I'd love for her to see how her son really thinks.

You're ridiculous and need to go back to school and learn to speak/type aproper sentance before hitting the "Submit Reply" button.

You need to chill son.

Heh.. As harsh as what you guys are saying, and after talking to a few more people that had intelligent inputs.. I have to now agree with that. I should have talked to her before I started putting a lot of my own money into it. I guess it really just upsets me becuase when my brother was driving it for the one year before I had it.. He never put one dime into it and she paid for oil changes, gas, insurance for him, rebuilding the transmission, even gave him money and forced him to go get it washed. Now, she gives to me and for the past year. I have put around (maint. money only no mods or oil or gas/insurance) over 1000$. This is just really on that note which is shooin me off. Then she goes buys him another used car when he got home from college and I know he is not going to put a dime into it... He doesn't give a darn what the paint or doors or interior how messed up it gets..
I now pretty much figure that when I got it, brother aside, if i'm driving her car she expects me to pay for problems that arise with it. And no matter what she wants to sell it to me for, that is her delusion. The bluebook on it is about 3800... And as of now it needs about 300 in repairs (known repairs). If I offered her 3500 or even 3600 she would laugh at me. Just goes to show that life isn't fair. With all of that being said (again...) I am not going to put any more money into it other than oil, gas, and my insurance. And the funny thing is.. Her and my brother don't know ANYTHING at all about cars.. Half of the stuff that I did to the truck was so urgent that if not being noticed by someone with half a brain, there would have been many many more major repairs needed done. I just recently looked at her Yukon under the hood for fun and she got mad at me for taking off the big plastic cover.. While in the process I noticed that (get this..) her intake tube was disconnected from the throttle body. Yet still I got in trouble for messing with her car. As I said before, (in much harder to understand rambling on sentences) I figured out now that not everyone is going to go your way and in the end you might just be sol.

KBB says it's only $3050 in excellent condition. Even w/pwr everything it's still only $3450.

1. I wish I could use someone's vehicle and only have to do upkeep/repairs. Man that'd be nice! It's like leasing only... well... I wouldn't have to pay anyone to borrow it!

2. Take you money and go look for a new vehicle. Car, truck, I don't care. But you are going to get deeper and deeper in a hole if you expect to one day own this vehicle for less than what she's asking (or so it seems).

If it were me, I'd shut up and put up. You have a roof over your head and get to use a FAMILY vehicle for free. So big bro gets more than you. Hah! Welcome to the real world - you'll be hearing that quite a bit as you get older

haha you're right.. I just did one for private party sale.. which is about most you will get for its worth.. http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...uizConditions=

says 3600 if excellent condition, which its not because it needs repairs and has minor rust on the frame... about 3100 if in good condition which I would say it is... and like 2700 if in fair.
