eh, not so fast there. My Chiltons 87-91 model has extensive coverage on the carb models.

Which really is a gripe - the 87 302 carb model is rated for almost 40hp more than my 89 302 EFI.

And thats why I don't really use Chiltons, the 302 swiched to EFI in '85.

351 was EFI in '87 (some 351HO 4barrels hung around though)
460 was EFI in '88.

The 300 was the only one I wasn't sure about.

Wow!! I wouldn't give up my 4.9 for anything. I get around 17-19 on the road at 65-70Mph. I can't complain, its got over 333,000 on it and still pulling hard. I use it for a daily driver now but it spent the first 10 years as an HVAC service truck. I just got done fixing all the oil leaks and she is running real good. In fact I'm pulling a uhaul car trailer this week end with my "new" 61 falcon I picked up off of epay. That's a 600Mile pull and she'll do just fine. The 300 may not be the fastest motor (in stock form) but man that thing is unbeatable for pulling a load and durability. There are tons of folks on this site that have over 200,000 on their inlines and they just run great.

I do have an E40D, that I rebuilt and updated and that overdrive is a huge MPG gain. As far as fixing up and old truck...... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've started fixing mine up and getting her ready for new paint. That Ford red just can't take these hot southern summers..... Mine is an XL but I'm going to dress her up nice and add some chrome. The cruise control I added last weekend is just great.... these long hauls are alot easier with cruise.
