Temperatrure sender on a 94 I6
Hey guys,
The temperature guage on my '94 I6 E4OD has never worked too well. If it moves its hot. If it hits the 'N' in Normal it's time to pull over (only happens on a hot day in the mountains).
I went out and bought some new stuff the other day and bought a new temperature sender because it was cheap and they were in stock. Now I have a small problem. I can't find the old one to remove and replace it. Where the heck is the temperature sender on these things? Anyone?

Sadly, it doesn't matter much now.
I hit a deer last night, 1/2 way between Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. I was doing about 70MPH.
I need a new truck before the hotel here takes all my money. Hopefully I can find the same model, so i can use as many parts off the old one as I can pull. I've put a lot of work into it.

I've put a deposit on a 1992 F-250 XLT 4x4, extended cab, long bed, 7.3 liter diesel. I'm going to be horribly broke for the next year and a half. I sure hope its worth it.

Anyone with a trailer who can reach Medicine Hat, Alberta can have the old F-150. 3 week old calipers and rotors. Month old starter and solenoid. Newish alternator, oil pan, gas tank, tires. I've spent a lot of time tinkering with this baby, despite the fact that it is an Ontario, Canada truck and is very rusty underneath the shiny paint. Heck, the new tailgate cables alone were $50. I'd try to get her home and part her out but I'm a long way from home, I'm broke and I don't have a trailer. Needs a new rad and one headlight to be driveable. Plus a new bumper, grille, quarter-panel etc. The airbag went off. Officially not worth fixing.

As long as you got a good deal on it.
The prices on trucks out here in Alberta range so much,
sometimes it is a great deal.
Wish I could get my hands on a truck like it.
Best of luck to you

I tried to PM you regarding your old truck,
Please contact me, I'm too new to contact you.

Hi Dragon,
I can't PM either. Not until I have made 100 posts. Been a member for nearly 2 years I think. Still "Junior".
I'm not smart enough to answer 100 questions around here, and not stupid enough to ask 100 either. Oh well.
I paid $7900 for the F-250. It has a turbo on it, looks like something after-market. I don't think the turbo is factory. It's a beauty. Everything works. Only complaint is the A/C needs a recharge. I've seen similar trucks go for over $10k. I saw it and bought it before the dealer had a chance to do anything to it. It needs about $400 in body work to clean up some rust around the running boards. They put bolts through and the running boards trap mud and water, and have created about four small rust spots right along the bottom. It was on the lot for less than 24 hours. 230,000km.
Right now I'm in Cranbrook BC waiting on a safety inspection and BC plates. Then it's back on the road to Minnesota to pick up my trailer.
The old truck is / was at Stern Auto in Medicine Hat. Turn off the Trans-Canada at the lights by the Husky Truck Stop & Ranchmen Motel, and go two blocks up that road. Stern Auto is on the right. Dunno if it will still be there. If it is, it also has about 90 litres of gas still in it. The door, ignition and gas cap keys are on the dash. Only the driver's door has a lock and the driver's door doesn't open anymore, so don't lock it. It starts. It drives. It just doesn't go very far, not without a radiator.
If it is still there you might want to throw Mr. Stern something. He did let me park it there for over a week. I like these older Ford trucks. I'd be real happy to see the parts used to keep another one running, instead of rusting away in a scrap yard somewhere.

So I think you did alright on it and it is a used truck after all,
so little things will need some work.

To make matters worse, it failed the safety, and it will take overnight for the JB Weld to harden completely. There were several small holes in the exhaust pipe between the manifold and the turbo. JB weld in the holes plus a high-temp patch on top of that, clamped down all nice. I hope that's enough to pass. I did it this afternoon and I just took it out on the highway. The turbo guage was showing 5psi, so I'm guessing the patches will hold. In any case, looks like I'm sleeping in the truck another night. I was supposed to be in Winnipeg a week ago, and was supposed to be back at work today. The boss won't be happy.
Not to be a nag, but that's still a minor fix - those airbags are probably THE most common type in any junkyard. I think I have a couple. I'm guessing less than $200 for an aftermarket radiator, less than $60 for a JY airbag, another $60 for a headlight & headlight door, and it would be on the road with less than 1 hour labor swapping parts.
You may be right. If I was closer to home I would have fixed it even if it wasn't an easy fix.
I'm sure if I think on it too much I'll regret letting her go. That was the call I made at the time. I was a very long way from home, on the other side of the rocky mountains and a very expensive ferry ride. I was on my way to pick up a 5,000lb trailer so I needed a bigger truck in any case. I can't tow two things at once. Even assuming I could get back to Medicine Hat I don't have the gas money to drive two trucks home from Alberta. Not after dropping $8k on the F-250.
Looks like Dragon22 might get her. I'm hoping someone will need it. If he does, it'll be nice knowing it's still on the road. If I'm not rich it is in part because I rarely sell anything. If I get something new I almost always give the old one away. Happens when you're the oldest of 9 kids. Lifelong habit.
The new truck gets 17MPG (15 US Gallons) on the highway cruising at 60MPH. Not bad considering I've done nothing to it. Diesel is much cheaper than gas.
