Throttle body spacers are a waste of metal.

How much you wanna spend?

Mild with just intake and exhaust, to wild with twin turbos...

TB spacers (spawned by equally useless carb spacers) are a waste of money and time, any claims of more HP are bogus.

A Flowmaster or Magnaflow (both are good quality) exhaust and K&N Intake kit will deliver some seat-of-pants gains for only a couple hundred and no major work, just hanging pipes and turning bolts.

Like adrian said, it's all up to how much you're willing to spend. Gotta pay to play.

A '96 4.9L is already as good as it gets. Nothing will improve it except regular maintenance & repairs.

uh, a little more than mild and a lot less than wild, haha twin turbos!, yeah, but its already got a K&N filter in it, and im thinking maybe replacing both cats with one hi-flow and maybe no muffler or a flow 40 original. couple hundred bucks. anybody know anything about some performance chips?

The exhaust is a good move look at a Catco 9513 converter, not so sure about the K&N filter, there's lots of opinions both ways on that one. None of the other bolt on stuff will do anything significant for you on a 300 until you fix it's ability to breathe. Unless you're willing to pull the head and open up the bowls, reduce and contour ths valve guide bosses, give it a proper valve job, clean up (but not enlarge) the ports, CC and polish the chambers, etc. you're just throwing money away.

Be careful playing with a '96, the OBD-II will rat you out to the smog police if you push things too far.

Do a search for user name Pkrwud, he had a Jet Stage II chip IIRC, and was happy with it. Troyer also has some Superchips tunes for the 300 I6 as well, and I think a few people in here had them.

I'm not sure if the 300 has a smaller converter, but the few people I've seen swap on the 302 gained very little. Being that the 300 makes it's torque at much lower revs, I'd have to guess that the gains on the 300 would be even less. Personally I'd wait to see how much the muffler wakes it up before even thinking about swapping the cat.

I'm not sure if anyone makes underdrive pulleys for the I6, but they are cheap and easy. Those or swapping to an electric fan setup will free up some power fairly easy.

alright, i found some headers it says it has efi fittings, can i put the sensors and junk in em, and put one high flo cat behind them, and maybe an x pipe. also, when i have to replace the oil pan gasket, im thinking about new cam theres two other cams with 264, and a 270 i think, which one would be the best? and possibly new valves and rods and what not, id liek to do least amount to this engine as possible, but i need some more power

I've got Cherry Bomb dumps on my '95.. not to loud, not to quiet and sounds great. I also noticed some more low end power with it, but not a whole lot..
I've done several more things to it too and it's turned out to look pretty good..
