Can I put a 351C in my 90 F-150?
Can I put a 351C in my 90 F-150?
I can get a 351C pretty cheap. Will everything bolt up to my
351W F-150? The 351C needs rebuilt any suggestions? That is even if everything will bolt up.
Thanks,
Shannon

Cleveland engines are great for racing, but I personally would never put one in my truck unless I only used it for mud bogging or drag racing. They have great hp potential but they aren't really made for everyday driving. Also, I don't know about where you live, but a Cleveland engine wouldn't pass smog in my town in a million years! I'm sure you would have to run a carbureted setup as Ford stopped making the 351C's long before they went to fuel injection. The 351C and 351W belong to two different engine families so I doubt the intake manifold from your Windsor would be compatible with the Cleveland. I'm not an expert, maybe someone else can verify my hypothesis, but your engine swap will be pretty extensive. Like strangeranger mentioned, the tranny bolt pattern is different, and I don't know what you plan on doing about your ecm. If you leave your stock module in, I'm sure it would go haywire and I have no idea what would you could swap in. Unless you have a lot of money to pump into a weekend driver, I would not recommend this swap. If you can get the engine for cheap, I would buy it. I'm sure there are plenty of Mustang owners who would love to get their hands on a Cleveland engine so you could clean it up and make a profit. Just my .02.
It can be done with some big $$$$$
The 351c shares the same transmission bolt pattern as the 302 , 351w. And the motor mounts will bolt right up. However you would have to use a 80's AOD insted of the electronic AOD (EAOD). The AOD flyweel may need to rebalanced to match the cleveland flywheel (50 ounce counter balance flywheel). Someone out there (can't remember the name)was making a fuel injected intake system for the 351c called a "Spyder" intake and came with the computer and everything for fuel delivery. You would have to make a smog pump bracket and use "MARCH" serpintine pullies. The rest of the parts are junk yard parts like exuast manifolds and "y" pipe off of a 1970-73 car. Welding would be reqired to tie in the exaust keeping the pre and cat converders in place . If you had the 351c 2bbl engine with the 2 bbl heads I think it would pass inspection. And put out 300hp or better depending on all other performance parts and head work. The intake system is fully programable from 300 hp to 500hp.

Cleveland uses the 302/351w bellhousing.
Mounts, pulleys, flexplate/flywheel, and other misc stuff will carry over fine.
The imbalance is old 302/351w 28 oz... that is a concern if the truck was 5.0.
I wouldn't bother putting a Cleveland in a later truck... but it will go easier than most would think.
Electronics would be the hard part.
