Exclamation Yay or Nay to some truck accessories here? PLEASE POST!!!!!

Hey everyone,

Argh this stupid 4-image limit rule is going to kill.
Anyway I have really been thinking about a few accessories lately for my 1987 F150 (which I didn't get too long ago actually.) I will list them and I would like some advice on why or why not I should or should not get them.

For those of you who haven't seen my F150 yet (yes the topper is getting taken off TOMORROW finally!):

Okay so here's the things I'd like your advice on, if I should get them or not...
  • Billet Grille

I really like the billet grilles, I think they add emphasis to the front of the truck and give it a more classic look.

  • Wing, spoiler, wind defector

Something of the like, they help improve gas mileage and I think they give the truck a big-rig feel.

  • Moonvisor

I love the Moonvisors, they look sleek and styleish and really help the truck say a lot. However I have read they can limit your MPG as much as 2 miles.

  • Hood scoops

These kinds of hood scoops made by Lund are the ones I like. I think they help add masculinity to the truck.

  • Train horn

Loud, obnoxious, fun, but when you're in a serious potential threat you're going to be heard by everyone unless they're deaf.

  • Cab fairing/Racerback

Kind of undivided on this one, I'd really like to get one but I'm not sure how it would look on my truck - if it would take away from my truck's masculinity (what I'm aiming for) or not.

  • Bed rails

Really like these, but I don't know how I'd put the on my truck since I have a bed matting inside of it that goes over the edges (where the topper rests on top of.)

  • Headache rack

I think they look nice and they're also keep you safe from objects flying through the back.

  • Bush guard

Well I guess it wouldn't protect me from the president, but rather just keep the grille and lights safe. I think it adds style too.

  • Clearance lights

I really like these, heard they're a b*tch to install though. I'd probably get these if I ended up not getting the Moonvisor...

  • Step/Nerf bar

Not sure if a step would look better on my truck OR a nerf bar, or neither.

Please copy and fill out the list below and indicate YAY or NAY for each thing and why.
---
Billet:
Wing:
Moonvisor:
Hood scoops:
Train horn:
Cab fairing:
Bed rails:
Headache rack:
Bush guard:
Clearance lights:
Step/Nerf bars:
---

Thank you VERY much for taking your time to help me decide on each thing (I won't for financial reasons put every single thing on the list onto my truck, but I would like to buy at least a few of them.)

Please tell me yay or nay for each thing and why, thank you.

I assume all of these items are for asthetics?
I'll sort your items above and below the line of sanity:

Billet: Yea Bling-Bling

Clearance lights: Yea I like these on the older models

Step/Nerf bars: Yea acceptable on a 4X4

Bed rails: Yea could be useful someday, at least the cap won't be back

Bush guard: enh, borderline bourgeois
-----------------------THE LINE OF SANITY --------------
Headache rack: Nay. For when you haul a cow to market?

Hood scoops: Nay. Instead just screw an old fusebox to the hood, punchout some side holes and the door on the top will be killer

Cab fairing: Nay. Not on a 4X4

Moonvisor: Nay. Just steal a giant ball cap off a NAPA delivery truck

Train horn: Nay. No social redeaming value

Wing: Nay. They 'DO' save you 1 mpg IF you are towing a 68 foot fifth wheel, otherwise people will just think you have satellite TV in the truck.

Billet: Yay, but the one off of a chevy wont fit your truck
Wing: NAY!
Moonvisor: NAY!
Hood scoops: NAY!
Train horn: Sure, have some fun with it too
Cab fairing: NOPE
Bed rails: Maybe
Headache rack: If you do rails
Bush guard: Never
Clearance lights: Adds drag, loose top speed/mpg
Step/Nerf bars: If you have a short GF/wife

I say don't get any of that stuff because of the age and color combo of your truck making it look "cool" is basically impossible. no offense.

But seriously, if I had that truck I would put the money into getting it restored a little bit and a nice tune-up in the engine, maybe a nice rust-free exhaust, and a new air filter and then just drive.

Spending money on that truck is NOT a good call. It's already lived a large portion of its life...and you won't get to enjoy the mods as much or for as long as you would on a new truck.

I gotta call BS on this one.
Riding with your left elbow resting on the door and slightly out the window would create more drag than five little 2x3 inch lights on the roof.

The change in top speed/mpg would be incalculable with/without these lights.

If it was my truck, I'd do the clearance lights and call it a day.

I think it was more of the color combo he was talking about...but anyways.

Billet: Yay
Wing: NAAAAAY! You won't (shouldn't) be towing anything big enough to need that wing.
Moonvisor: Nay
Hood scoops:Stick on hoodscoops that add 10 HP? I think not.
Train horn:Yay!
Cab fairing: Nay
Bed rails:Nay
Headache rack:Nay
Bush guard:Like UC said, more of a push bar would look better
Clearance lights: Yay
Step/Nerf bars:Only if it's a 4x4 and you really need them.

My friend had an Inline 6 cylinder and he had a total of 5 lights mounted at the top of his cab, in his bed on a rack. And with the lights upright, he could drive up to 80-85 mph, and with the lights folded forward, pointing at the roof of the cab, he could do almost 95.
And im sure mpg has to do with it too although i cant say ive seen it. But i have seen the top speed limited.

Think about it, its almost like a wall of lights up there. 4" high.

WOW i feel stupid, i just realized he said clearance lights, like the orange ones seen on duallys, i was thinking of the large KC type flood lights mounted on a rack in the bed. Im really should pay more attention.

Yeah, I think the five pattern clearance lights look badass on any of the pre-97 trucks.

They would look dumb on a girly 97-04 model like I got.
