Hello everyone!

Basically, I am looking for an older F150 to use mostly for hauling stuff and to be able to hook a trailer up to so I can haul my 92 mustang around.

I have a line on a 1995 lightning and I think they want about $2000 for it. I haven't seen it yet but from the information I have received it sounds like the body is a little rough but mechanically the truck is in good shape. Does this sound like it would server my purpose or should I look for a different F150? I figured if the lightning would work as a beater truck I could use it and still have a pretty fast beater truck...

 

It pains me to think of a Lightning as a beater truck!

 

Lighting and beater in the same line makes me sad. Specially my favorite body style lightning.

Well.... Its already not a show truck due to the rough body.

 

Sounds like a great restoration project.

 

It might turn into a resto project.

My main concern for now though is will it be able to haul my 92 mustang around? What kind of gas mileage will it get?

Is $2000 a good price for a 95 lightning?

 

Wow... I'd love that drivetrain in my truck... I could care less about the body...I didn't think the L's had the tow cap. that the "normal" trucks had... or was it payload cap.

 

Wow, thats a good price. It will easily tow whatever you can hitch to a half ton truck. But I would use the driveline and put it insomething else if the body is done.

You will have no trouble towing a Mustang. As for gas mileage my 95 Lightning gets 15 mpg empty on the highway, 11 mpg mixed city highway, figure around 8 mpg pulling a trailer.. I tow a small tractor a couple times a year and you can almost see the fuel gauge move.. At least you have about 30 gallons between the two tanks.

 

IIRC the Gen I Lightnings were rated at 5000# towing, somewhat less than a conventional F150 with an E4OD.

 

Cool, so it shouldn't have any problems with my 3300 pound mustang.

I think it has 150000 miles on it so I know that’s getting up there in miles but I have no problem swapping a lower mileage 351 block into it. This might be considered blasphemy but what kind of issues would I run into swapping a 302 or stroked 302 into a lightning? What kind of computer does a lightning have?

 

A specialized one that will fetch a high dollar on Ebay.
