92-96 F-150 a pos?

Is it true the 92-96 F-150 was a pos? I`ve talked to some guys who said the chassis was flimsy, the differentials sucked and the slave cylinders sucked. i thought it was a good truck besides being a dated design.

Chassis really hasn't changed much from 80-96, the differentials are still used on the 97-03 F150's (well the 8.8" and I think the 9"?) and the slave cylinders have been basicly the same in the M5OD tranny from 88-03....

I'm at 130k miles with the only thing needing to have been replaced was an alternator other then normal maintenance things.

The frames are just as flexible as the 80 series trucks.

The slave cylinders suck to change, they put them in the bell housing so you have to drop the trans to change them.

The 8.8s... they suck I hate them. I cant keep from breaking mine. Ford should have kept the 9inch in the trucks. As far as the f250s and 350... I dare ya to break the rear in them.

Personally, I like the way the 92-96 F-Series look. I'm not down for an aerodynamic look on my 4x4, I love the way all the 80-96 trucks look.

As for the 8.8" rear end, some people say it sucks, but I've got over 150,000 miles on mine, the rear diff. fluid has never been changed and (knock on wood) I haven't had anything break yet. BTW, I am running 35" tires and I drive my truck pretty hard. I think they're stronger than people give them credit for.

The 92-96 have their flaws, but I would take one over a chevy or dodge any day. I would say that Ford frames seem to flex more than others, but I haven't ever seen one break because of it. I used to do some pretty serious off roading, and usually my ford would flex and keep all the wheels on the ground, where my buddies Chevy's would lift a tire and loose traction. Plus the 88-up Chevys had a REAL crappy 4wd front end up until about 94-95 when they got all the bugs worked out.

If you get an F250 or F350 with a 460 or Diesel then your slave cylinder will be outside the bellhousing-not inside. Also I have seen a lot of 8.8 rear ends take a lot of abuse. They are not as tough as a 9 in. but they are not horrible. Like MnvlMat said a F250 or 350 has a nearly indestructable rear end. My 92 has been in several tractor pulls and I havent had any rear end trouble.

Just my .02

aint nuttin wrong with the 8.8. ive never had any problems, there are plenty of stangs runnin grip loads of power through them. and there is plenty of aftermarket support for them.

I've seen los of early 90's f-150 work trucks, plow trucks, etc. At the end of the month the chevies and dodges of the same age have a list of repairs, the fords get an oil change.

My best friend parents are chevy fans and my dad is a ford fan. My first truck i got was a 87 F-150 300 strait 6 non extended cab long bed, i have had the thing 6 feet off the ground, over the hood in water, stuck a million times (this is stock with 31's) and the thing will not die, (of course i have had to replace little things) my buddie in his chevy followed me to most these places and hes replaced most his front end, engine, tranny and rear end. (his chevys a 92 z71) Ford holds up no doubt about it he now owns a ford. and since then as you can see i use my ol ford for a dump truck and now have built my 93 rallier!
