took my truck swimming

I recently went for a drive in a thunderstorm and found myself driving through some pretty high water. I drove home with no problems, but when I tried to start my truck a few hours later, it would not start.

I have since tried to start the truck with starting fluid and it will turn over, but it dies almost as soon as it starts running.
My truck is a 1989 f-150, 5-speed, with 2 gas tanks.

I had suspected water in the gas tank, but the fact that I was able to drive home makes me think the gas is probably fine.

I have taken the distributor cap off and dried it off, but that's about all I know to do. Please help!!!

I would bet that it's got wet wires and cap. Take a little WD-40 to the distributor posts and both ends of the plug wires and see what happens.

If it runs on starting fliud then its not an ignition problem, it's in the fuel system.

I agree with the fuel pump check. Fast, cheap and quick.
If you can't hear it running below you when you turn the key, toss in a relay for $5 or so. That's better than putting in a $90 fuel pump only to find out that didn't fix it. Buddy of mine learned the hard way.
