Just ordered some more parts!

Well, i dont know whats gotten into me, but i just ordered a Hurst shifter and a K&N filter to make my own FIPK. I am amazed how quickly the paper filters get dirty, and how much of a difference i can tell when its clogged. I dont know why i wanted the shifter, but im getting tired of shifting and am hoping this will make it fun again. Next on my list is a lift kit and new tires and wheels. I will probably go with a 4" lift and 33" tires on 15x10 weld scorpio wheels.

Yep, the modding began the day i bought the truck. I had a new exhaust at home waiting for it. the stock muffler was falling apart, so i bought a cheap cat back system from summit. then i got a set of there junk shorty headers, and removed both cats. yes, it is a 4x4 and i use it too. in fact last weekend a friend of mine was talkin crap about how his lifted '79 f-150 could out wheel mine, so we went out and he has yet to go anywhere i cant, although i did end up scraping my crossmember and t-case through the dirt a bit.

that leads me up to my next questions, where can i find off road type stuff for the 87-91 trucks? id kind of like to go for the pre runner look, so that means a cool bumper/brush guard thing, and some skid plates and stuff. what lift kits do you guys recommend? I cant remember what brand (i think it was rough country) has an ad in one of my mags for a 4" kit for $449 including shocks.

I have some pics, i will have to set up a gallery here.

Check out 4wheelparts.com, they have everything you can imagine for 4x4's. I have the Tuff Country 4" performance lift and so far I'm happy with it. However, from what I hear the Skyjacker lifts are the best lifts for Fords. If you want top quality, go with Skyjacker, if you want the best value without getting junk, go with Tuff Country. I've heard the Rancho lifts sag after not too long and I'm not crazy about the yellow springs that Superlift provides, but that's just my personal taste.

There are a ton of parts for the '87-'91 Fords when it comes to 4x4 accessories, almost comparable to Mustangs and street/strip performance parts. Good luck and have fun!

Ok, where at? Ive had a hard time finding much in catalogs. I think i will either go with the tuff country or rough country, cause they seem to be cheap and fairly popular. Did you install your lift yourself?

Well, the website I posted for starters, but they also have a catalog with tons more stuff in it. They have a brick and mortar location about 30 minutes from my house and seem to locate just about anything I've ever inquired about, including a full-float rear end conversion for the 8.8"!!! They've got guards, plates, lifts, tires, rims, gears, axles, winches, lights, bumpers, etc.

Any ways, no I didn't install the lift. I had it proffessionally done. Suspension lifts on non-solid front axle trucks are a pain in the rear end unless you're a wrench head which I'm not. If you've got a friend and you pretty much know what you're doing, it takes about a full day to install. When I had it installed, I dropped it off first thing in the morning and they got done around 7:30 pm.

I got the shifter and filter in today. The shifter has adjustable spring tension, and the factory setting is a bit too stiff for everyday use. your sure as hell cant miss 3rd though and the throws are shorter than a honda civic! as for the filter, well theres not much difference in power, its a bit louder and im hoping that my MPG will improve a bit.

but yeah, a friend of mine that works at a local tire shop that does a lot of lifts said he would help me. I went in there the other day and they were putting a lift on an F-250 with the I beam suspension and it didnt look too hard. plus he said he would get them to re-align it for free, since i just had them do it about a month ago.

There is one local 4x4 shop around here and im going to have to go check it out, and maybe give 4wheel parts a call.

Summit has some stuff, order the Summit truck catolog. I have a smittybilt front bumper ,check it out in my pics. Haven't found any skid plates that will fit, but I was thinking of making my own. Hella 500 series lights make a nice addition to the front also. and they're cheap

For great lift and pre-runner look info check:

www.fullsizebronco.com

The nuts and bolt are the same between the two and these guys have done some GONZO stuff to their rigs. There's more lift info in there than you can ever use.
