Monuments Shutdown
The D-Day Cemetery in Normandy is shutdown, too.
Too bad if you are a WWII vet and want to spend an hour saying goodbye to your buddies before you pass on.
Looks like tours of Hoover Dam in Harry Reid's home state of Nevada are open, though.

Looks like Jan Brewer (R), the Governor of Arizona has pledged state funds to the feds to keep the Grand Canyon open.
But our nation's Executive Branch has declined the offer. So it stays shut. Unless you can afford a helicopter tour. Last I heard, those are still running.

He has people working for him who don't know how they will put food on the table next week, and this jackass is driving around spending a crap load of money for his security giving speeches.
How are they doing that? The French do all the upkeep there. France gave the USA the land but operates it and pays the bills.
The land that the cemeteries are on is considered US soil, just like an embassy is.
Yes, but it is maintained by France. Last time I was there (a few years ago) the tour guides, grounds keepers etc were all French people.
EDIT: after further review it seems the .gov of the US pays for it but French nationals do the work.

No, ours is worse. The Soviet people knew they were being lied to and treated the media as such. Here the average schmuck believes the lies they are told. Or even worse, they think obvious propaganda machines such as the Jon Stewart show are news.
It's not even whether or not the people believe it. It's that the media is NOT true journalism any longer. It has become a government controlled institution that protects leftist interest at all cost. They aren't even concerned with ratings. NO ONE outside of Fox and independents will bring out anything against the current administration. Benghazi, along with all of the other past and current goings on, would have been very interesting stories and made all kinds of headlines. I highly doubt that every single person in news organizations, etc. purposefully chooses to ignore these things - they're far too juicy to just "let go," so there must be serious repercussions for publishing stories that go against the liberal interest.
I sound like an anti-establishment hippy . . .

Anymore the main source of information seems to be blogs. I can't tell you how many discussions I've been in where someone uses a blog as their source. A blog is nothing more than a modern day editorial, which means it is not written objectively and is typically someone's opinion. It's almost as bad as using Wikipedia as a reference.
Peer review by people who hold no other qualifications than they got the job. Last I heard the only thing was you had to produce references to support your writing. That sounds good until you figure there are a lot of things out there that are written with a point of view that are allowed to be references. I could be wrong though.
