Is that what happens in a forum called politics and religion?

So folks are entering the politics and religion forum, reading posts, getting offended and then complaining?

Where are we again?

At least I get to drive my F150 to work this morning.

 

I'm in the peoples republic of California, but it doesn't matter where you are, there are snivelers everywhere!

I will go ahead and let everyone know that Jack and I differ somewhat but agree in principle. The way I see it, we have posts that are about some news event and there is discussion pro and con from all sides. I think we can learn from those types of posts, both political and religeous. It can be eyeopenning to see what some others believe and occcasionally, they might even cause me to rethink a position. We should be able to express ourselves about those events without throwing insults at folks with different views but usually, sooner or later the insults kick in and that is when we mods have to step in.

Now, there are other posts that have nothing to do with current events or may be very loosely connected. The main purpose of these posts is to rile other members that are known to be somewhat passionate about their beliefs. Often, these are posted for the simple purpose of pot stirring and the poster probably sits back with a grin and waits, hoping he will rile another member to go too far and get themselves in trouble with a comment.

We have those from all positions that are guilty of this and when we see it, we will deal with it accordingly. When we set up religeon and politics as a separate forum, it availed us the opportunity to keep a closer eye on what happens and deal with it quicker and more desisively. As RP stated, it is a last step before banning all posts of those topics, which I see as a tradgedy. I have learened a lot from these posts, though not all of it good, in my opinion.

What you see in this thread is a post that could offend about 50% of our members. Many may read it and have never posted and will never post in this section. This post had nothing to do with current events but was for the sole purpose of pot stirring. I realize that is my opinion by the way, and you may not see it that way, but I along with the rest of our team are charged with policing the site and maintaining the atmosphere the owners expect their automotive site to have. I'm sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps you understand where we come from.

 

is this the seven types of republican or the way to argue with 7 types of republicans?

if they are saying that all republicans fit in these seven groups, then I am surprised that OP is so narrow minded.

once a person is so biased and prejudiced to a group, they have lost the battle and have a flawed view of the world.
if the sole purpose is winning the arguement and you become so good at arguing, then no one will engage you and your views are judged before they are ever spoken.

i truely belief that most of us a just a little to the right or a little to the left of center. far left and far right are nuts to 90% of us. (IMO)

 

Some sites just forbid Politics/Religion threads altogether.
It was a good idea to corral the threads here as they were getting embarrasing to the GD forum and more work for the mods. New members may want to check out GD to get a feel for what we are about and it was wise to add another click before they see the dirty laundry and low blows.

I'll go along with whatever the mods decree, without them there would be anarchy and the forums would fall apart. Anyone volunteering their time will reach a breaking point and just decide no-pay + pain and suffering just isn't worth it.

And with no mods or sub-standard mods, this place would go down the crapper pretty quick.

 

I think, BROTHERDAVE, that you've pretty much nailed it. Without being able to read Hab's mind, I certainly knew he WAS pot-stirring, and knew the "extreme right" segment of our population would take immediate offense. That's largely why I immediately encouraged a response about the extreme left.

And, of course, he posted an "opinion piece" that was penned by someone else. Was it serious? Probably not, because as you pointed out, anyone with a view that narrow has a pretty flawed viewpoint. I saw it as humor based on a "stereotype", which is the basis for much that is humorous. And, whether or not we want to admit it, there's always a bit of truth in a stereotype.

But, when we look at ourselves through the lens of this kind of humor, we can often pick up flaws in our makeup that we can correct. That is its value.

Not that it does not describe the process to a T, but you do use this one fairly often. Could be the repetitive nature of the source...
