Maryland
Don't think you can shoot a .243 in southern Maryland, but you can out in Garrett county. Have you thought about a .410 shotgun??
Yeah I'm thinking about getting the .410, but I really want to get him back out there with the 20. I think if I work on the shoulder he will do just fine. He is itching to get out shoot I Just got to find the time. Harley Rider where are you located in Southern Maryland? I live in calvert but I have lived in charles, PG and St Mary's. I currently hunt on a piece of land in 7th district in Clements.

Duck season opened back up today and we ended up with 2 out of a public swamp, this warm weather last week has kept all the ducks up north. Headed out to a different spot in the morning that should have some ducks left in it.

Well, this morning was a bust. There were ducks all around us, but the fog was so thick we couldn't barely see 10 yds infront of us. Only 2 woodies came in close enough that we could see them and we got both of them, and at 9:00 the fog was still thick enough to cut with a knife so we left.
robeyster,
Stick with the .20G. Use light loads. He will come around. My boys (now 17 and 19) each started with started with a Rossi .243/.20G combo. They started with 2 3/4" light game loads and worked their way up to 3" turkey loads. .410's are nice but ammo can get expensive. Good luck! If that stock was not firm against his shoulder it probably kicked back and popped him. This will be tough to work through. I know in hunting situations you don't even recognize the kick.

Ok, my wife taught 7th grade Language Arts at Leonardtown Middle school, and I bought my new F150 from Leonardtown Ford.
Small world. By the way my father in law and I are looking for some land to lease next year for Deer and maybe Turkey, If you know of any or come across any shoot me an email.
Just got back from the trip and we had a great time. Each of the three days we hunted were the worst duck hunting conditions (no sunshine and barely any wind), but day 2 did turn out good because rain kept the ducks moving. We shot 9 ducks and a goose Monday, 4 man limit and 1 goose Tuesday, and only 1 duck Wednesday. We saw tens of thousands of birds each day and honestly I had the most fun the last day because we saw the most birds flying, they just didn't want to come close enough and the slow day made for some great conversation in the blind. If any of yall are interested in a guided duck hunt, choose Johnny Wink at Megabucks Duck Guides you won't be dissapointed.
Day 1 - 9 ducks and 1 speck

Day 2 - 4 limits and 1 blue goose, guy on the far right and back left were the guides

Had a great hunt yesterday in the same swamp I posted a pic of earlier. Got 4 gadwall and 3 woodies, and there were 2 more gadwall that we dropped stone dead but they fell in thick briars where we couldn't find them.
