What do you use when you off road?

what are some of the tools that you guys have in your truck or on it when you go offroading? just curious to see what everyone is using when they go through mud, sand, brush, etc.

^^^ we use the same hoops straps they use to lift heavy A/C units and other heavy equipment up to the top of building.

Bring tire spoons, bring misc tools, bring portable welder, air compressor, bring trailer, and bring an off road rig. Bring shovels, bring ax, bring come along, bring ratchet straps, bring extra shackles (d-shackles) and extra tow straps, I bring extra axles, extra tires, extra random parts I have. I bring rain gear/heat gear no matter the weather when I leave. I even bring extra shoes. I bring extra tarps, extra rope, extra bungy rope things. The list goes on and on, not all is JUST what I bring, but a collective pool from everyone going. When we go wheeling, we go, set-up a camp and go from there. We usually have one area to for real work on the rigs if needed, with tarps and proper clean-up materials.

Almost forgot, I bring extra fluid for me and my rigs. Bring water ! Beer does not = water. I have been in some real BAD situations, where I woulda gladly KILLED someone for some damn water ! Now, I have some with me, in my rig, and in my cooler. never can have too much.

Guys i feel you. i dont trust chain and dont use chain to pull anything out.

HOWEVER

there still are safe ways of using chains or cables.
1. Placing a jacket over the chain in case it breaks it directs the chain downwards.
2. Placing a weight in the center of the chain to direct the chain downward. (best method)
3. Very good method hardly anyone uses: MercTech you might know this one Take the spare tires out of both trucks run chains though them have the trucks lined up in this order: back bumper tires front bumper (no gaps must be SNUG) have the chain go from a d-link and a hitch though the first tire though the first tow loop then though the second loop and though the second tire then d link the chain back to the hitch. Now the trucks act almost as one. I would not recommend this on a new truck though (scratches and dents can occur)
4. If you arent in a truck stand FAR back

Like i said i dont like using chains and WONT puh my luck with them. But done properly and they can work and still be safe.

On the farm, all we use are chains for recovering vehicles and equipment.

The reason chains get such a bad rap for vehicle recovery is because some dumbasses SNATCHED and YANKED with a chain and it ended up breaking. Then everyone that hears about it starts spouting off about only using a strap...

what are you trying to say? only MT is the knowledgable offroader? dont be a ****! jk.

i would never let a chain be hooked up to my truck even if i did use it safely.
