I was just at Rausch today with Firezapper and the temps today made for some interesting, yet also sucky wheeling. We went down H right after 12 and didn't have any issues, but at 2:30 we tried to go up it and it was like a solid sheet of ice. The rig I was riding in slid about 50yds almost uncontrolled down the trail About 3/4 up H one group met another going the other way and a Wrangler lost traction and slid backwards into a Cherokee going the other way. This then backed up the trail because 2 other groups were on the way up. Pretty much imagine a traffic jam on an icy incline with a 100+ft drop off on one side of the trail for over an hour. We ended up having to back/slide all the way back down H and try to climb out on powerline. Add to that 2 trucks had the rear brakes freeze solid causing wheels to drag.

It sure as heck made the green trails more like Blues for the more stock rigs. Heck Zapper blew a drive slug through the side of the hub housing trying to come up the hill climb by the entrance of the trail to lake Christi. Normally that hill is nothing, then again H is usually a highway too. I wouldn't count on Zapper for this run after what happened today.

I think I'm out for the Mar 1 run. I have 2 other club events later in Mar.

Yea not a hard fix but just need the time and weather.

Busted wheel hub and drive slug.

That was the only damage from yesterday. I've never seen a hub explode like that from a slug grenading. Usually they explode and eject the cap. It couldn't be from doing the hill climb in 2nd gear full throttle would it?

Wolf, thats actually a pretty simple fix. Just replace the hub. The problem is getting the time on a weekend to go to the junkyard to find a replacement hub. Ed, did you find out if a TTB D44 hub will work? The bearings are the same, it would just be the separation distance that would be different I'd think.

I won't be at Rausch in March. I'm leaving Wed for Grand Island, NE again and I'll only be home for 9 days between then and March 14th. The 9 days are during the 2nd week of Feb. No wheeling for me until maybe.........May?

The wheeling was fun up there, just the part on H sucked. After riding with Ed I need to get my **** done. Nothing like making a Black trail look like a Blue trail.

Yeah, its kind of in the woods. Its offroad, so body damage happens.

Unless you try and do something stupid like I usually do each time. Nothing like slamming the front axle dead into a rock and slamming you into the steering wheel. My transmission crossmember is also proof of this kind of thing too. It was only straight when it entered the park on the first run.

If you take it easy on greens you can avoid most damage. My problem is I like blues and blacks too much.

I actually might be bringing my jeep instead of the f150. At least on the trails. Dont know if it will be ready by march 1st but im still going regaurdless. Ill take the f150 if I have too, just hoping the jeep will be somewhat capable by then.
