Anybody ever use "Tow truck in a box"

I saw an infomercial for this thing the other night. It was a metal/aluminum thing that you could put in front of your tire for better traction to get you out of mud snow etc. They even said they have had "good" mentions in off road and 4x4 magazines. They showed clips of "stuck" cars and trucks, then using it to get out. Some of it actually looked like it would work. So has anybody actually used it or seen it used for someone who was actually stuck?

heres a web site on it if your courious

I've used something similiar with my mustang when it was my only vehicle.

They work ok but i hate getting out to pick it back up. If you've driven a mustang....they hate snow and once you get them going you better not stop or you'll never get restarted. I've blown many a stop sign or redlight going up slight inclines, otherwise I'd stop and then spin until June.

I saw something like this used on a National Geographic type show. They got the guy though some pretty deep quicksand. However, his were much longer I would estimate 4'+. Also the guide warned about not standing behind the vehicle because people have been killed when the ramps shot out from underneath the tires. They also had ropes tied to the ramps so they could drive trough the deep muck and then just pick up the ramps instead of walking back though to pick them up.

its just a fancy 2x4, anywhere you would get stuck with AT or MT rated tires, that aint gonna do no good anyway

You imagine being stuck in the middle of a large bog and having to go back to get them? Nice. The rope idea is a really good one.

I also like they showed people using them on an Integra. What they don't tell you is for cars like that with unlimited slip diffs you need two...

Mustangs suck in any kind of slippery conditions. I could not believe how easily they lost traction in the rain/snow/mud. Scary if you actually want to go somewhere.

Which also makes them funner then hell in a frozen parking lot...

I just took a 2x12 and put a bunch of large head bolts in it for traction. Works in most conditions if you can get under the tire. Materials 4' 2x12 and 30 4" bolts and nuts.

Works fine on a car but not so much on a truck that is really stuck (4x4)

Most the time the issue isn't that you cann't get traction it is that you have your frame rails in the mud or diff stuck on something.

these can also be very dangerious as typically you are spinning your tires (only one or two wheels spinning cause most us don't have posi or lockers) and finally it grips and goes flying out the back. In our off-road club stacking items like this under the tires wouldn't be allowed in most situations. I've seen a few logs and rocks go flying and witnessed a window being taken out once due to it.

Cool product but not for off-roading or a 4x4

Not much use when you are high centered. The truck that was stuck in the mud would not have gotten stuck with the proper tires.

looks like you only get unstuck for like 2 feet and if your hi-centered im sure you tires would just spit them out the back.

Tow Truck in a box

Picked up a Tow Truck In a Box a couple of weeks ago. It definitley works on snow. I had to use it over the holidays to pull out my F150. Welcome to Canada, eh!

I hear they also have them in the US Army trucks overseas. Pretty cool.
