i've never been one for rack and pinion steering... doesn't seem beefy enough for pickups IMHO. I wish there was a conversion kit to convert em back to a gear box with a pinion arm.

im no expert, but to me that sounds high. are you replacing, or rebuilding?

 

Rack and pinion is far superior and can take a lot more abuse. I can twist a MOOG idler arm on depend. I can't get warranty on them any more.

As for price. Seams low to me. 2-3 hours to replace so $230-$345. $400-$600 for the rack. $100 for alignment. I'm yet to find a rebuild kit for any steering rack.

 

Yeah racks are nearly 400 and are 150-200 in core charge. Seems low. Usually your 800-1000

Mine has a slow leak also but it's because of my own stupidity. Every Wednesday I have to top it off with fluid

If you're going to rebuild it do yourself a favor and find another rebuild kit. None of that Duralast stuff seems to last longer than a couple months.
