what gear option should i choose?

i just put a leveling kit with 35" tires on my truck. i got stock 3.73 gears. now i know the raptors run 4.10 gears with 35" tires. but ocasionally i tow about a 6000 pound camper. sometimes to the mountains. and i occasionally pull a boat, no sure how much it weighs. but this isalso my daily driver so i want something that will do alright on the highway. and i worry more about power loss than gas mileage, so what gears should i get?

Jumping up one gear size isnt worth it. looking at 1500-2000 for the gears and install. Jump up two sizes or more. Your 3.73's are plenty to turn those 35's. best way to offset would to buy a SCT tuner with some customs tunes. should run you around $400, I got mine from troyer and it cost me a tad over $300 with my forum discount.

If you got the extra money then do it, I'm just saying one gear size isn't worth all the work and money your gonna spend to jump to 4:11's. Especially when you can spend 1/5th of that on a Tuner and make up if not gain power. In the end its YOUR truck and YOUR money. I'm running Raptor takeoff rims with 315/70/R17's and a 3:55 LS and with my tuner i haven't noticed a change in performance.

Put 4.56's in it. You need a programmer anyway to correct the speedo/odo for the big tires.

i can already see the next thread posted will be
"why is my gas mileage going down?"

But GLC is correct, 4:30's min, best bet is 4:56's

I had 3.55's in my Expedition. I'm running 285/75R16 tires and regeared to 4.10's. Part of me wishes I would have jumped to 4.56's, only because I rarely drive it and don't really care/worry about the mileage I get, but it was well worth the cost to regain the lost power. As Tim "The Toolman" Taylor says, "MORE POWER!"

The added benefit to regearing, is that it'll help save the transmission. Power alone isn't always the solution!

Can't get 4.30's for the front axle if you have a 4x4.

I still feel that a re-gear would help my truck which has 33s and a 3.73 to move better, so there is definitely a strain with 35s. It may or may not harm the transmission in these butter sensitive '04+ trucks, but the power and mpg gain is worth the gear exchange if the money is there. x2 on needing a programmer anyways.

They also have 6spd transmissions, which pull better than the 4spds and don't require such a lower gear to handle the 35s.

so snce mine is a 4x4 4.56 would be my best bet running 35's. my power will still be the same at highway speeds though right? just worse mileage?

It will get you back the power you lost with the bigger tires.

Yukon and Motive are the only decent brands I know of. Best bet is to look online and shop around for best price. Summit, and randy's ring and pinion are good places to start. Google is your friend.
