3.08 gear swap

Ford put 275/55-20 rubber on mine, they are 31.9" tall, 650 revs per mile, and weigh 42 pounds each in the below tire.
Those 305/45-22 tires are only 32.9" tall, 632 revs per mile, and using same tire, weigh 44 pounds each.
I used this tire to compare weights:

Figure the same manufacturer's same heel in the two sizes, 20" and wider 22" (wider tire?) and the 22 is also heavier as "more metal".
For the 1" taller tire in a 32" range, only something under 3% difference. You are talking about the difference between 58.33 mph and 60 mph at same engine RPMs. Or to say it another way, you'll pick up 1.7 mph real speed at an indicated 60 mph.
Yes, the taller and heavier tire / wheels will take more power to get the sme weight vehicle up to same speeds, and you will experience a cost in gas mileage .... but if you took it easy .... you might not notice it.
If driving from Denver, Co. to Dodge City, Ks. .... you might even see a gas mileage improvement?
I just say all this as it isn't like you were talking about 37" "Mud Swampers"? If the look of the slightly wider and slightly taller tires is worth it, 3.55s will work with the 305/45-22 rubber.
