questions about gear change

so ive been calling around getting pricing for my gear install and the shops are asking me what gear ratio i am coming from and going to because it affects the price on labor.

my question is, WHY would it matter what gear ratio i am using as to how much they charge for install? they also said something about changing the carrier bearing, what is that?

im confused on that one as well. It's not like were being charged more choosing between a 4.10, 4.30 or 4.56 unit why would there be any change in labor, i feel like they're pulling your leg. No one around here has mentioned what gears Im going to install. They just quote me on labor.

I've been told you only need the master install kit and your good to go

exactly. who knows they probably charge you more

Thats why when they ask for my truck year i give them 04-08 f150 not its an 08 f150 and you can charge more because its newer type of bs, not falling for it

one guy was even arguing with me about what rear end i had in my truck! which i can understand as some people have no clue what they have, but i had to tell him what rearends came with what f150's and explain that i had a 9.75 and not a 8.8 that he thought came with ALL f150's

AH NO! haha

yeah mines a 9.75 I just give them the information thats pertinent to my gears being installed. Whats the point of them knowing what exact year it is besides wanting to take you for more money

yeah, i dont see why they need to know what truck it is. as long as they know what axles you have it shouldnt matter!

ive heard some guys only charged 400 for front and rear gear installs! it just pisses me off!!
