4x4 engagment (phantom shifting)

Hi folks, I have my original thread in the 97 forum, so I figured I would get a bit more help here.

1997 F150 4.6 automatic with ESOF. Have replaced the transfer case shift motor and it randomly shifts into 4x4 high. I even unplugged the dash switch and drove around and it still shifted into 4x4 by itself. People have been thinking GEM or transmission switch (which I though only MSOF used?)

Thanks in advance as I have searched and searched and searched and am out of ideas. Fraid I'm going to have to have it scanned.

I think it could be 1 of 2 things. 1 gem. 2 the transfer case shift motor plates are sending wrong signal to gem. Good luck
