Will a mustang gt 8.8 carrier work in my truck?
Truck is an 02 with the 4.6 auto 4x4, so its got the 8.8 rear end... found a good deal on a 99-04 mustang gt carrier with an LS and 4.10s, would this work in the f150 8.8 rear? Also, what am I lookin at labor wise to put it in?

spoken perfectly! I made the mistake when i was rebuilding my rear end and bought some 28-spline spider gears.... so defaintely make sure that if you get a complete carrier to make sure that its a 31- spline

did they change the overall width of the axle and mounting locations for the mustangs as well?
i've always wondered if an 8.8 from a ranger or mustang would have perches at the right locations and not be too narrow.
edit: woops, misread that one

I'm pretty certain that won't work. In fact, I remember a guy trying it one time. He bought the Mustang TL carrier and then the spider gears and it still would not work.

I have a question regarding the swap
My axle is howling when the power is on and quiets when the power is off. It also quiets down on the expressway over 60 mph.
It is a 98 Lariat 4.6, automatic, 3.73 rear gear with limited slip and 102k miles. I am the original owner and have taken good care of the truck. This the first real problem.
We replaced the U-joints, changed the rear end dope and added the friction modifier. This only helped slightly. There were some fine metal shavings at the bottom of the housing which was cleaned out.
Can anyone advise what is causing the howl? Thanks,
