rearend shudder

when im stopped and pull out normal while turning my truck seems to have a shudder coming from the rear of the truck. It has no power so you don't think traction bars will stop this do you? I jacked up the back of the truck and turned the wheels. I had to go to work so didn't really have anytime to investigate, but the yoke behind the tcase was making a rubbing sound kinda like "friction sound." Could this have something to do with the shudder feeling i get from the rearend? Any idea's?

Thanks in advance

If you have a limited slip differential, that's clutch shudder. A fluid change with friction modifier should cure it. Use 75W140 full synthetic (any brand) and modifier from the dealer.

but if it was the piece the driveshaft connects to then the u-joint is about to go. kinda rare a 97 would suddenly need the friction modifier.

check your u-joints first.

Do i just need to get undr the drive shaft like i'm bench pressing and push on it?
See if it has any wiggle in it?

Nossir - if the fluid has 100k on it, it's worn out and nasty. That rear has clutches in it that wear and drop particles in the fluid. I had mine done at 104k and the stuff that came out was disgusting. I was starting to get shudder and it cured it almost instantly. If it were the u-joints, you would have other indications - like vibrations taking off straight, and clicking/clanking noises.

I checked the yoke's/driveshaft, they had no sort of wiggle or anything and everything looked good to me.

Cool...mine just flipped over to 102k, I'm sure it's never been serviced b/c the radiator was never serviced either and i had to put a new one in as soon as i got the truck. The previous owners obviously didn't think too much of maintainence and i actually would not have bought it had i known.
But anyway it's time it sounds like. I'm switchin all fluids over to RP, so i was gonna do it anyway, i guess thats convenient. Glad thats all you think it is.

Thanks for all the help!!!

must have misread. though he was getting the noise from the outside of the diff.

actually maintenance schedules gear oil changes at 100k so you're not too far off. i guess that's a schedule that really is for the time it needs to be done.

Just the rear - the front is not limited slip.
